About This Manual
Purpose
This manual describes the structures and configurations related to the hardware of the
R5300 G4X rack server so that you can learn about the chassis structure, hardware
components, hardware configurations and cables of the server.
Intended Audience
Chapter 1, Product Describes the chassis structure, logical structure, and internal layout of the
Structure R5300 G4X.
Chapter 2, Hardware Describes the typical hardware configurations of the R5300 G4X.

The R5300 G4X is a class-A product. In real-life scenarios, it may cause radio jamming,
so users may be required to take feasible measures to prevent radio jamming.
Notice
: For security purposes, the R5300 G4X is only applicable to the areas with the alti-
tude lower than 3000 meters.
Front Panel
In accordance with the installation mode and number of hard disks, the front panel of the
R5300 G4X has the following types of configurations:
Twelve Hard Disks Installed Horizontally
The front panel provides twelve 3.5-inch (compatible with 2.5-inch disks) SAS/SATA
disk slots that support NVMe SSDs, see Figure 1-3.
For a description of the front panel of the R5300 G4X, refer to Table 1-1.
4 Hard Disk operation in- This indicator can be in the following states:
dicator Off: The hard disk is operating properly or the hard disk in the
(Status) RAID array is not present.
7 UID button/indicator The button is also used as an indicator. This indicator can be in the
following states:
Flashing at 1 Hz: The server is being remotely maintained or
the firmware is being upgraded through a PC.
Flashing at 4 Hz: The server is in debugging mode. The serial
port on the panel serves as the BMC debugging serial port.
Solid on/off: The UID indicator is manually turned on or off
through the Web portal of the BMC.
The UID button supports the following operations:
Press and hold for less than 4 seconds: Perform server posi-
tioning or cancel the current function (cancel positioning or the
BMC debugging status of the serial port).
Press and hold for 4–10 seconds: Switch the serial port on the
panel to BMC debugging status.
Press and hold for 10 seconds: Reset the BMC.
Press and hold for 4–10 seconds and then press and hold for
10 seconds: Reset the BMC and keep the serial port on the
panel in BMC debugging status.
8 Power button/indicator The power button is also used as the power indicator. This indica-
tor can be in the following states:
Steady yellow: The server is powered on in standby mode (the
host is not powered on).
Steady green: The server is powered on in payload mode (the
host is powered on).
Rear panel
The IO modules on the rear panel of the R5300 G4X can be configured as PCIe 4.0
standard card expansion slots, hard disk expansion slots, or both. Figure 1-8 and Figure
1-9 shows two types of rear panels of the R5300 G4X.

5 Power supply module 2 Three types of power supply modules (550 W, 800 W, and 1,200
W) are supported. The Platinum power supply module is provided.
Supports power input of 100 V–127 V AC and 200 V–240 V AC
(50 Hz to 60 Hz).
Supports 240 V and 336 V DC high-voltage power input.
Supports -48 V DC low-voltage power input.
Supports 1+1 redundancy and hot swapping.
6 Serial port An RJ45 serial cable is used to connect the serial port to the de-
bugging PC. The server can be configured on the HyperTerminal of
the PC.
7 Onboard NIC interface Used for data communication between the server and external de-
vices. Connected to an Intel I210 NIC that provides two GE electri-
cal interfaces and supports the adaptive rate of 10/100/1000 Mbps.
8 iSAC management in- A network cable is used to connect the iSAC management inter-
terface face to a debugging PC so that you can log in to the Web portal of
the iSAC through a browser on the PC and configure the device.
11 USB 3.0 interface Connected to a USB mouse, a USB keyboard, or a peripheral stor-
age device (for example, a USB flash drive for booting the system).
12 OCP card Various OCP NIC 3.0 cards with the interface rate of 1, 10 or 25
Gbps can be installed in the OCP card slot.
13 Power supply module 1 Three types of power supply modules (550 W, 800 W, and 1,200
W) are supported. The Platinum power supply module is provided.
Supports power input of 100 V–127 V AC and 200 V–240 V AC
(50 Hz to 60 Hz).
Supports 240 V and 336 V DC high-voltage power input.
Supports -48 V DC low-voltage power input.
Supports 1+1 redundancy and hot swapping.
CPU Two Ice Lake CPUs are interconnected through three UPI channels, with a
maximum transmission rate of 11.2 GT/s.
PCH The Lewisburg bridge chipset is provided by the Intel Whitley Server Plat-
form. As the core component of the PCH, the Lewisburg bridge chipset in-
tegrates SATA, PCIe and USB interfaces.
DDR4 Thirty-two DDR4 memory module slots are provided. DDR4-3200 RDIMMs
and LRDIMMs are supported.
SAS Hard disk RAID controller, which protects storage device data and supports
common RAID modes such as RAID0, RAID1, RAID5, RAID6, RAID10,
RAID50 and RAID60.
Module Description
SlimLine High-speed signal socket, which is used to connect IO modules and hard
disk backplanes.
BMC The BMC chassis management software is used to manage the hardware
system in an effective manner.
For a description of the internal components of the R5300 G4X server, refer to Table 1-4
.
2 CPU heat sink Dissipates heat for a CPU. Each CPU has one heat sink.
5 Front hard disk A maximum of twelve 3.5-inch hard disks or twenty-five 2.5-inch
hard disks can be installed.
6 Front hard disk back- Provides eight, twelve, sixteen, twenty-four or twenty-five 2.5/3.5-
plane inch hard disk slots.
8 Fan module Dissipates heat for the components inside the chassis. Four
8038/8056 high-performance fans are installed, supporting dynam-
ic speed adjustment and N+1 redundancy.
10 Power supply module Three types of power supply modules (550 W, 800 W, and 1,200
W) are supported. The Platinum power supply module is provided.
Supports 110 V/220 V AC power supply.
Supports 240 V/336 V HVDC power supply.
Supports -48 V DC power supply.
Supports the maximum efficiency of 94%.
Supports 1+1 redundancy.
16 OCP card Various OCP NIC 3.0 cards with the interface rate of 1, 10 or 25
Gbps can be installed in the OCP card slot.
17 Rear 3.5-inch hard disk Used for IO module 2/3, supporting two 2.5/3.5 hard disks.

18 Rear 3.5-inch hard disk A maximum of four hot-swappable 3.5-inch SAS/SATA HDDs can
be configured.
20 Rear 2.5-inch hard disk Used for IO modules 1/4, supporting two 2.5/3.5 hard disks.

21 Rear 2.5-inch hard disk A maximum of eight hot-swappable 2.5-inch SAS/SATA HDD/
SDDs can be configured.
22 Mezz RAID card Supports common RAID modes such as RAID0, RAID1, RAID5,
RAID6, RAID10, RAID50 and RAID60. The interface rate can
reach 12 Gbps.
For a description of the silk screen and position number of each interface in Figure 1-12
, refer to Table 1-5.
The R5300 G4X is designed with two CPU slots that support all of the Intel Ice Lake
CPUs on the Intel Whitley Server Platform. Each CPU provides eight memory channels,
and each memory channel contains two DIMM slots. Therefore, the R5300 G4X can ac-
commodate up to 32 DDR4 memory modules with the maximum rate of 3200 MHz.
Figure 2-1 shows the slots for CPUs and memory modules.
For the relationships among the CPUs, memory channels, and DIMM slots of the R5300
G4X, refer to Table 2-1.

Notice
To maximize memory performance, this part recommends the number and layout of
memory modules to be installed.
If the server is configured with one CPU (CPU1), it is recommended to install memory
modules by referring to Figure 2-2.

Two half-height half-length PCIe 4.0 x8 standard cards are supported by IO module 1/4.
One of the two slots supports the PCIe 4.0 x16 card. Figure 2-6 shows the PCIe card
configuration supported by IO module 1/4.
A full-height full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 standard card, a full-height full-length PCIe 4.0
x8 standard card, and a full-height half-length PCIe 4.0 x8 standard card. Figure 2-8
shows the PCIe card configuration.
A double-height full-length PCIe 4.0 x16 GPU card and a full-height half-length PCIe
4.0 x8 standard card. Figure 2-9 shows the PCIe card configuration.

The above figure displays the ports in the RedHat system. For example, if a standard
PCIe card with two optical ports is installed in slot ⑤ of IO module 2, port 0 of the PCIe
card is displayed as ens5f0 and port 1 of the PCIe card is displayed as ens5f1 in the

An AC power cable with a three-flat-pin male plug is connected to a power strip in the
cabinet to supply power for the R5300 G4X chassis.
External View
Figure 3-1 shows an external view of an AC power cable with a three-flat-pin male plug.
End A of the power cable is a C13 female connector, and end B is a 10 A three-flat-pin
plug. The power cable is a black AC power cable.

Figure 3-2 shows an external view of an AC power cable with pre-insulated tubular ter-
minals.
End A is a C13 three-pin female plug, and end B consists of pre-insulated tubular termi-
nals. The power cable is a black AC power cable.

lated tubular terminals, refer to Table 3-2.

A -48 V DC power cable is connected to the DC PDU in the equipment room to supply
power for the R5300 G4X.
External Overview
End A of the power cable is a dedicated -48 V DC power plug, and end B consists of
pre-insulated terminals with copper lugs. The power cable has three wires: one red wire,
one black wire, and one yellow-green wire.
For the correspondence between the wires and pins of the power cable, refer to Table
3-6.

A straight-through cable is used to connect two devices or terminals for data transmis-
sion.
External View
End A and end B of a shielded straight-through cable are shielded 8P8C crimped plugs.
End A and end B of a non-shielded straight-through cable are non-shielded 8P8C
crimped plugs.
Connections
The two ends of a straight-through cable are connected to the network interfaces (RJ45
interfaces) of the devices or terminals that require data transmission.

Note
The metal shielding layer of a shielded cable must be securely connected to the metal
shielding enclosures of plugs at both ends.
A serial cable connects the serial port on the R5300 G4X chassis to the serial port of a
debugging PC.
External Overview
End A of a serial cable is an RJ-45 port plug, and end B is a 9-pin D-shape molded plug.
Connections
Connected to the RJ-45 port of the server. Connected to the RS-232 debugging serial port
(DB9) of a debugging PC.
Technical Specifications
A serial cable uses multiple four-pin shielded pair-twisted wires. For the correspondence
between the pins and wires of a serial cable, refer to Table 3-10.

A VGA cable is used to connect the R5300 G4X and a media display.
External Overview
A VGA cable is a beige UL2919 cable with magnetic rings, and uses HD-SUB plugs at
both ends.

Connected to the VGA interface on the chassis. Connected to the VGA interface of a media dis-
play.
Technical Specifications
A VGA cable is a horizontal pair-twisted cable. For the correspondence between the
wires and pins of a VGA cable, refer to Table 3-12.
