Download papers for free

The “sci-hub trick” allows us to get free papers (more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sci-
Hub).

For those who don't know the trick yet, here's how it works:

1) first identify the paper you want to download, for instance:

http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/articleDetails.jsp?arnumber=4812104

2) Remove the “s” in “https” and add the magic word ".sci-hub.tw" right after the domain
descriptor, so it looks like this

http://ieeexplore.ieee.org.sci-hub.tw/xpl/articleDetails.jsp?arnumber=4812104

Update for IEEE: Links with “/abstract” in the URL: remove /abstract before adding sci-hub.bz

http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/7886775/

http://ieeexplore.ieee.org.sci-hub.bz/document/7886775/

3) Now the response will be either that you will be redirected directly to the pdf, or perhaps a
link will appear that should take you to the pdf. In some rare cases, it doesn't work, but very
often it does.

Due to copyright issues, the sci-hub domain sometimes changes. You can read updates on the
sci-hub twitter account.

An alternative is to go to http://gen.lib.rus.ec/ and search for the article there (title or doi). This
works for papers and books.

For books specifically, http://booksc.org/ is a useful link.
