    Patient Safety Alert


    Several reported events (unintended retention of a
    foreign object in a patient after invasive procedure
    including surgery) related to Intravenous (IV) cannula
    tip retention led to the need for surgical intervention
    in different age groups, including neonates.

    Staff handling and dealing with IV cannulas require


    following the manufacturer instructions.

    The recommendation as per Saudi Food and


    Drug Authority (SFDA) to prevent future
    occurrences is by following the manufactural
