Paper 1 Question 5 Revision

200 Word Challenge

Your task today is to write 200 words (approximately!) – of descriptive writing based on
the picture above. This is a mini version of what you could be asked to do in Language
Paper 1 Question 5.

1. Spend half of the lesson time planning thoroughly. Remember the tips I have given
you on how to break down the picture:

• use a grid;
• move from one part to another;
• move ‘beyond’ the picture – use it as a starting point and move beyond
it e.g. into the mind of a character;
• ‘zoom in’ on specific parts of the picture and, as with number 3, go into more
detail here;
• use cohesive devices e.g. discourse markers, ‘backwards references’ to link
paragraphs.

2. Spend the other half of your time writing and refining your 200 words. Please work
by hand in your Language Paper 1 exercise book and bring this along to next
Thursday’s Language lesson.
