UNIT 1: HOBBIES
Lesson 1: Getting started – My favourite hobby
I. PROFILE:
- Lesson: Getting started Unit 1, Global Success English 7
- Class size: 30 students of class 7C2 (level B1)
- Duration: 45 minutes
II. ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE:
- Students have already learned some structures to express likes and dislikes from the textbook
English Discovery 6.
- Students have learned some vocabulary related to the topic hobbies.
III. OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to:
1. Knowledge
- Gain an overview about the topic Hobbies
- Learn some vocabulary to talk about hobbies
2. Core competence
- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork
- Actively join in class activities
3. Personal qualities
- Love talking about their hobbies
IV. TEACHING AIDS:
- Grade 7 textbook
- Computer connected to the Internet
- Projector
V. ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS:
- Ss may lack experience of group / team work, T should give short, clear instructions, and help if
necessary.
- There may be a lack of time, T can use backup activities.
VI. PROCEDURES
PRODUCTION (10’)
Activity 4: Sorting activities
Activity 5: Making lists
Aims: - To encourage Ss to cooperate with friends and to put some activities into different categories.

- To activate Ss knowledge of the world.
Implementation:
Activity 4: Answer key:
- T shows Ss some phrases about + doing things: riding a horse, gardening (others:
hobbies and asks Ss to categorise the activities. travelling, skiing, doing yoga, etc.)
- T explains the categories if needed. + making things: making models, building dollhouses
- Ss work in groups, discuss the answers. (others: painting, making pottery, etc.)
- Ss present their answers by using T’s + collecting things: collecting coins, collecting teddy
laptop. bears (others: collecting toys, collecting books, etc.)
Activity 5: - Make a list of the advantages of each
- T randomly puts Ss in groups of 4 or 5. category of hobbies (doing things, creating
- Ss work in groups and make a list. things, collecting things).
CONSOLIDATION (1’)
Aim: To consolidate what Ss have learnt in the lesson.
Implementation:
- T asks Ss to summarise what they have learnt Wrap-up:
in the lesson. - An overview about the topic Hobbies
- SS talk about what they have learned. - Vocabulary to talk about hobbies
HOMEWORK (1’)
Aim: To review the lesson and prepare for the next lesson.
Implementation:
- Continue working on the list of the advantages of doing things, creating things, collecting
things and prepare to present their group’s opinions in the next lesson.
- Do exercises in the workbook.
