The moment I stepped into the room, I heard shrieks of laughter. Suddenly I felt a chill down
my spine recalling the premonitions of my friend. I gathered all my courage, stopped for a
while and moved forward groping in the dark. As ill luck could have it! My phone had entirely
run out of battery by dusk. I remembered what my friend had said about the blood-curdling
incident. Thus, the trigger to face the eerie unknown had pushed me to end up with the
predicament. It had instilled into me a strange urge to explore the abandoned room in his
bungalow and ransack things to bring out the reality of the spooky nature of that room.
I had a match box with myself. However, I decided not to light it as the full moon was already
up in the sky sending glint of pleasant rays through the sides of the closed jammed wooden
windows. I could see my own hazy shadow in that faint light. I moved forward. The shrieks
became more distinct and broke into peals of laughter which echoed in the spacious room. I
dared to step towards a small door-like structure underneath the massive sculpture carved on
stone which was placed on a wooden stand. It felt like the laughter emanated from within the
sculpture. It was the sculpture of an angel. I could figure it out when I kept moving forward.
All of a sudden, I saw in the dark a shadow rushed towards the small door and vanished in no
time. The door closed on its own with a thud. I ran towards the door and found none. However,
the series of laughter continued in the same pattern, and more so it enraptured my whole being.
I had no strength to move. I felt a strange numbness in my body. I saw the angel carved on
stone lift her wings. The laughter ceased and it was replaced with a cry of pain. The angel lifted
her wings and tried to fly crazily. It seemed like the angel was desperately trying to free herself
from the age-old shackles of imprisonment. I cried and fainted on the spot. When I opened my
eyes, I saw my friend, Shailesh sitting beside me on my bed and the bedroom was already
basking in the fresh beaming rays of the daylight.
