The rock formations ranging in age from Archaean to recent include gneisses, schists, phyllites, intrusive, medium to coarse grained sandstones, basalts and recent alluvium. The high relief area in the easter and north eastern part occupied by Archacan and Deccan Trap have steep gradient allowing high run-off and therefore have little groundwater potential. The yield of wells in these formations range from 5-10m3/hr. The yield in sandstones varies from 50 to 170 m3/hr. The yield of wells tapping Quaternary alluvium in Cambay basin ranges between 75-150m3/hr. There are five major aquifers in alluvial sediments out of which the top one has dried up due to over exploitation [Dynamic Ground Water Resources ‘nnual Replenishable Ground water 5.81 BCM [Resource Net Annual Ground Water Availability {15.02 BCM. |Annual Ground Water Draft 11.49 BCM. The State Govt. informed that the draft Bill is under process of finalization and suitable legislation will be enacted shortly. Inclusion of Roof Top Rain Water Harvesting (RTRWH) in building by laws: Metropolitan Areas have notified rules under which no new building plan is approved without corresponding rainwater harvesting structure. The D/o Roads & Buildings have been directed to ensure that all major Govt. constructions including educational institutions had adequate rainwater harvesting facilities. The Urban Development and Urban Housing Department has issued necessary orders Gujarat Town Planning Act, 1976 to incorporate the rules for RWH.
