New in this version
In this version 6.0 of the Surface Geology map, the following areas are added: Previously
unmapped areas of map sheet 1214 IV NØ, 1215 II NV, 1215 II SV, 1215 III SØ and part of the 1215
III NØ map sheet. Additionally, are minor areas near Egå, Harlev, Hundslund, Mattrup, Nr. Snede,
Risskov, Saksild, Salling and Skårup, mapped and included in version 6.

Content
• Pdf version of the legend (English and Danish).
• Pdf version of the surface geology map (English and Danish).
• Metadata in the INSPIRE standard as an XML file, English and Danish in one file
(Jordart_25000_v6_metadata.xml)
• Map description – in Danish only (Danmarks Digitale Jordartskort_v6_GEUS rapport_2021-
68).
• A polygon dataset with the sediment type, the files Jordart_25000.
• A line dataset to symbolize the polygon boundaries, the files Jordart_25000_linie.
• A polygon dataset that indicates the year or period in which the individual areas are
mapped, the files Jordart_25000_kortlægningsår.
• A workspace with map layout in Danish. The workspace must be placed in the same folder
as the data files.

Map scale
The digital map has been compiled at scale 1: 25 000. However, unlike topographical maps at this
scale, the precision is not 2-3 meters as the mapping method used implies that the boundary
between two sediment types may be displaced up to 50-100 meters.

Coordinate Reference System

The map is in the coordinate system EUREF89 UTM zone 32N.

Signatures
The signatures of the sediment types are indicated by letter symbols and colors. The letter
symbols are a mnemonic code composed of two to three letters, which indicate the type of
deposit, geological age and lithology. Each sediment polygon is assigned 3 sediment type codes
JSYM1, JSYM2 and TSYM, in most cases TSYM (interpreted symbol) will be the most appropriate
choice for controlling the coloring of the map. The text fields age and sediment reflect the content
