After reading chapter 8 Watching Big Brother I can say that we’re going downhill. This
society as a whole is letting us down and is making us seem worse and worse with things
happening. People who are mentioned and even with activities that occur. What Chapter 8 taught
me was that even after everything we are given lies in American textbooks, it goes into depth
that we are told at the beginning that nothing bad, that nothing can occur and that stuff happens
but lies instead of the truth. We are told that here we are in peace, that our past presidents and
leaders have done a change in our society to impact us and everyone around us. We have been
kept in a way of living in a society where we hear what is safe for us but not the truth. The fact
that I don’t understand is why this history isn’t in our textbooks to understand. We have been
growing up being lied to and slapped in the face with facts that weren’t reasons. It makes me feel
like a completely ignorant person who now doesn’t know what to believe or trust. We have been
seduced into a world of lies where any word takes action or any person who was white or had
power took control and was kept in history as our future changed.
Even after reading chapter 8, I realized that what we are taught in schools until now is
that we’re the good guys and that the United States never did anything wrong. When someone
needed support during wars what the U.S. did was nothing but inference at moments they weren't
needed. Every day we are lied to, we are given some information that is a lie and not the truth.
Then how in the world is trust built overall? How does the government expect us to trust and be
safe if all we get is lies to “protect” us? I understand that it might be some information that we
might not want to hear but still. It hurts to think that we were all "good and protected". But deep
down we were being fed toxicness and evilness into our brains to then get the truth later that we
do not know anything about and that we are just dumb. This chapter just made me overreact. I
understand the government has control over everything and how things are, but why do this to a
society of new generations? We deserve the truth as a society. Where is the trust of the people in
a generation where things have gone downhill?
