Key

1 I spy

Play a game with your learners. Begin with the example on the worksheet and encourage
them to answer by saying I can see a (bed). Lead the game until they seem confident and can
lead or play in pairs.

2 Focus on language 1

Give your learners time to read the dialogue from the story. Ask which story picture is it? (2).
Highlight this question by pointing to the example and its place in the dialogue. Work through
the other questions with your learners, give them time to find and say. When they have said
them all, give them time to write the answers, and cross out from the dialogue as they use it.
Check their writing.

1. Your bed is ... , I’ve got ... 2. My toy box isn’t ...
3. There ‘s ... 4. There ‘s ...
5. There are ...

3 Focus on language 2

Give your learners time to complete the table by referring to the previous exercise. Play the
audio to check their answers. Play the audio again, pause and let them repeat to practise their
pronunciation.

4 Ordering

If your learners don’t seem confident, work together as a class by saying the sentences first.
Then give them time to write the sentences on their worksheets. Monitor and check their
work.

1. There is a chair.

2. There are some toy boxes.

3. There isn’t a bedside table.

4. There are some drawers.

5. Is there a desk?

6. Are there any beds?

5 Focus on language 3

Learners work individually to complete the sentences. Encourage them to say complete
sentences when checking their answers.

example: This is a bedroom.

There is a bed.

There isn’t a red bedside table. It’s brown.

The desk is brown and there are some drawers in the desk.

There isn’t a toy box but there is a big wardrobe.

There isn’t a yellow chair. It’s green.

6 Speaking

First, give the learners time to look at the pictures and circle the differences. Then encourage
them to say the differences. You can expand the activity by getting them to focus on colours
too.

- In picture 1 there are two beds. In picture 2 there is one / a bed.

- In picture 1 there is a / one bedside table. In picture 2 there isn’t one.

- In picture 1 there isn’t a desk. In picture 2 there is a desk.

- In picture 1 there isn’t a chair. In picture 2 there is a chair.

There are more differences if your learners make sentences focusing on colours, for example:
In picture 1 There is a brown bedside table. In picture 2 there is a blue wardrobe.

Extra activities to expand lesson to 60 minutes:

Extend I spy by using bedroom pictures from lessons 1 and 2 as well.

Play a memory game with the language table. Show it on your board, learners cover their
eyes, cover a segment, for example, There is. Your learners open their eyes and say which is
missing - There is ...

Create extra sentences for ex.4 and 5 using other vocabulary items from lesson 1.

Use other bedroom pictures for extra speaking practice.
