The RACE writing strategy helps you when you are responding to a question. Each
letter of RACE gives you a helpful reminder of what to include in your answer.

Restate the question

Rewrite the question in your own words to show that you understand what
it is asking you. This also helps to keep you focused on the question you are
responding to.

Answer the question

Give your answer and then elaborate on what you said. This allows you
to lead into more paragraphs that are to come. Be clear and strong in

your opinion.

Prove that your information is correct by referring to a trusted source. A

book or a news story can generally be trusted. The first answer on Google
can’t always be trusted.

Explain your answer

Tie everything together with a concluding statement that restates your
position on the topic.
