Dear Superintendents,
‘Thank you for meeting with Department staff yesterday moming regarding teaching AP
Psychology for the upcoming school year. As our team shared yesterday, the Department of
Education is not discouraging districts from teaching AP Psychology. In fact, the Department
believes that AP Psychology can be taught in its entirety in a manner that is age and
developmentally appropriate and the course remains listed in our course catalog.
am sending this letter to you today, out of an abundance of caution, due to the statement on AP
Psychology released from College Board on August 3, 2023. College Board has suggested that it
might withhold the “AP” designation from this course in Florida, ultimately hurting Florida
students. This is especially concerning given that the new school year begins in a week. I want to
+e clear, AP Psychology is and will remain in the course code directory making it available to
Florida students.
‘As you know, IB and other advanced course providers have already confirmed they will be
offering a psychology course in Florida
Please do not hesitate to contact me if'you have any questions.
