COURSE: MECHANISM, SYNTHESIS AND ANALYSIS

GROUP FOUR (4)

PROJECT TOPIC: A MOVING LEVEL TABLE (ADJUSTABLE TABLE)

1
INTRODUCTION:
MECHANISM SYNTHESIS AND ANALYSIS (ME 264) is an introductory
course in dynamic of machines, which seek to, covers underlying theories and
techniques for analysis and synthesis of mechanical systems, which consist of
planar linkages, mechanical drives and cams. It places emphasis on the use of
graphical techniques and computer simulation tools.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE:
A leveller table is a type of table that can be adjusted or levelled to ensure
stability and balance on uneven surfaces. It typically consists of a tabletop
supported by legs or a base, with mechanisms that allow for height adjustment
and stabilization.
Leveller tables are commonly used in various settings where stability is crucial,
such as laboratories, workshops, manufacturing facilities, and even in homes.
They are particularly useful when working with sensitive equipment or
conducting precise measurements that require a level surface.
The mechanisms used to level the table may vary depending on the design.
Some leveller tables have adjustable legs with threaded feet, allowing users to
manually screw or unscrew the feet to achieve the desired level. Others may
incorporate hydraulic or pneumatic systems, which enable automated
adjustment with the push of a button.
In addition to levelling, some advanced leveller tables may offer other features
such as tilting or height adjustment, allowing users to customize the table to
their specific needs. These tables are often constructed from sturdy materials
such as steel or aluminium to ensure durability and stability. Overall, leveller
tables provide a versatile solution for maintaining a stable working surface in
various environments, ensuring that tasks can be carried out accurately and
safely.

CALCULATIONS
The Degree of freedom (DOF)
From Kutzbach‵s Modification of Gruebler‵s equations:
M = 3(L-1) – 2J1- J2
Number of links = 10
Number of half joints, J2 = 3
Number of full joint, J1 = 10
NB: Assume that all half joint are considered as full joints
3
Therefore;
M = 3(10 – 1) – 2(13)
M = 27 – 26 = 1
M= DOF= 1

This product is manually operated with ease effort and environmental friendly.
The principle behind the product ( adjustable level table) is that, when one
adjust it upwards, the table turns to increase in height and vice versa to suit the
user preference. This makes it very much stable.
