these people?

C. Presentation of the Lesson:

The different types of speech style will be presented following Anna’s day.
Anna will be the main character of the lesson and through her interaction with
different people all throughout the day, the different types of speech will be
introduced. The students will be given choices on which kind of dialogue should
Anna start with when talking to different people, the students will also be given a
chance to supply the conversation with their own ideas. They will also have to
identify the name of the speech style used using the letter clues given and define
it by how it is used in the scenario.
Anna is a university student attending a known educational institution, her
day starts with her attending her class. There, she was tasked to lead the
morning prayer by her professor.

1. Prayer: Frozen Style

FR_Z_ _ STYLE
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy
kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those
who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us
from evil.” (C)

Definition:
It is the most formal communicative style that is usually used
during respectful events and ceremonies. It also used when one shows
hesitation, disinterest, or prejudice. Frozen speech is used generally in a
very formal setting and does not require any feedback from the audience.
It is the most formal communicative style for respectful situations.

2. School Report: Formal Style

_ORM_L STYLE
“Good morning, everyone, I am here to discuss about the bones in
the human body. An adult human has a total of _________ while an
infant __________. ______________________________________.” (D)

Definition:
Formal speeches are straightforward speeches. In this speech
style, the speaker avoids using slang terminologies; what the speaker
says is something that has been prepared beforehand. Its complex
sentence and noun phrases are well structured, logically sequenced, and
strongly coherent.
Communication using the formal speech type is one-way, in which
the speaker simply transmits information to the listener. The formal type
of speech style often does not encourage listeners’ participation or
interaction among communicators.

3. Discusses with the boss about a possible salary raise: Consultative Style
CO_S_LT_TI_E STYLE
Anna: Good day, boss. I have been working in your business for
three years now and I am wondering if it’s possible to negotiate a
salary raise. ________________________.

Boss: Good day to you too Anna, business has been slow these
past few months and
_____________________________________________. (A)
Definition:
This is used in semi-formal communication, sentences end to be
shorter and spontaneous, the speaker does not usually plan what he/she
wants to say, most operational among others.

Unlike the formal and frozen styles of speech, the level of

communication making use of the consultative style involves cooperation
but does not necessarily require involvement. This means that the
listeners are involved in meaning-making by being allowed to give
feedback.

4. Video call with friends: Casual Style

C_S_AL STYLE
“Hey Trish! Guess what? Today, I talked to my boss, and he is
such a bummer! ______________________________! ISTG he’s just
being stingy! ___________________. (B)

Definition:
An informal communication between groups and peers. Casual
style is used in conversation between friends and insiders who have
something to share and have shared background information but don’t
have close relations.

Casual speech is characterized by slang meanings or expressions

that are easily understood by the communicators without being given too
much information.

5. Meeting the boyfriend for a date: Intimate Style

IN_ _ MA _ E STYLE
“Hey Hon, have you been waiting long?”

“Don’t worry Hon, I just got here. Are you hungry? Dumplings?
Ramen?”

“_____________________________________.” (E)

Definition:
This speech style is for very close relationships like couples,
family, and best friends. It is also used for self-addressed questions or
self-talk, etc. Intimate speech is used in conversation between people
who are very close and know each other quite well because they have the
maximum of shared background information.

This speech style makes use of words at a minimum. The

communicators understand each other even with just a single nonverbal
gesture or behavior such as a rising tone of voice, a grunt, or a raised
eyebrow. A child who often forgets to close the door may be told by his or
her sibling to do so just by saying, “Door.”

D. Developing Mastery:
Class Showdown
The class will be divided into two teams the Team Speech and the Team Styles.

The teacher will show the class, sample scenarios or conversations and the
teams would have to identify which type of speech style is used or will be used.
The teams will have to yell their team’s name altogether to express that they
want to answer the question presented. Whoever gets to yell their team’s name
will be given the chance to answer but if they answered wrong, the other team
gets to steal the chance. The team with the most points by the end of the round
will be the winner.

1. Your sister is sharing to you that she caught her boyfriend cheating.
2. “On my honor, I will do my duty to God and to my country. To help other
people at all times, and to live by the girls scout law.”
3. “Good morning, Ma’am, I have some questions about my grade in your
subject. Will it be okay if we discuss where I can I improve to get a better grade?”
4. “Yaas, queen! Slaaay!”
5. You attended a job interview.

E. Application:
GROUP ACTIVITY

out an example scenario of it. The groups will be given 15 minutes to prepare. The
