MGMT 270-22 Mid-semester Test – Instructions

Date: 6 April 2022, 11.30-1 PM

Duration: 90 min

• The test is on-line only and it is an open book test.

• Prepare carefully (see the topics and instructions below). Be mindful that too much dependence on the
textbook will slow you down. Be prepared so that you can easily complete the test in the 90 minutes
allowed.

PREPARATION and MATERIAL COVERED

• The Test is based on the material covered in lecture weeks 1-6 and corresponding chapters in OM6
Textbook Chapters: 1,2,3,4 and 6. To prepare, review all chapters and read all “How to revise and
prepare” documents on Learn.

• Be aware that cases studies - which we typically covered on Thursday - are also part of the course and
you might be asked questions about the cases.

• The Test includes 6 questions and is a mixture of short answer (essay questions – three questions; Q1-
3) and quantitative problem-solving questions (also three questions; Q4-Q6). Questions may comprise
more than one part. In computational questions, always show your workings. You will be asked to
upload the photos of your workings after the test.

• Mid-semester tests from the past (with model answers) are available on Learn. Please notice that the
tests in the past might have covered slightly different course material (e.g.; in 2013 it was Chapters
1,2,4,9 and 11). However, in the past, the test was a closed book exam. As the test in 2022 is an open
book examination, the qualitative (essay) questions will be more focused on the synthesis of the study
material.

• Plan your test – make sure that you will not be interrupted by others in your household. I know that
this is not always easy, but some pre-planning should help you manage the situation.

ACCESSING THE TEST

• You can access the test through Learn - go to section “Mid-semester Test”. You will see the three links
related to the midsemester test.

 • Click on the link for “Mid-semester Test – START HERE”. You must read and agree to the honesty
statement before you will gain access to the test. This will become available 5 minutes before the start
of the test. This is not part of the 90-minute test. The test will only come “live” at 11:30AM NZ time if
you have completed the honesty statement. Click on the link “MGMT 270 Mid-semester test” to
complete the test

• After you complete the test, you will have 20 mins to upload the workings related to quantitative
questions (Q4-Q6). Click on the link “MGMT270 – Mid-semester test – PHOTO UPLOAD FILE” to upload
the photos. More details are below.

ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS

• Answer all essay type questions (Q1-3) on LEARN in the spaces provided. Keep your answers relevant
to the questions asked. Unnecessary and/or unfocused discussion will be penalised!

• Quantitative problem-solving questions (Q4-6). These questions will require your calculator. You will
write them out by hand on paper, photograph the workings/responses and upload the photograph(s)
to Learn. Maximum two photos per question are allowed. No spreadsheets are to be used, and no
spreadsheets should be uploaded. Only hand calculations will be allowed to be uploaded. Zero credit
will be given for any uploaded spreadsheets. You must show your calculations to get credit for answers.
The upload screen is shown below. Use the "Insert image" icon. Photos should be right-side up (not
sideways or upside down).
