6.4.1 Sanitation services:
Describe the expected service hours and expected constraints from the sanitation site as well as the
water supply point of view (technical problems, available quantities, etc.):

EDE CPIRA 2nd Call for Proposals- July 2020

Is this proposal-demand driven?

 If so, how has this been established?
 If not, how is it conducted that it is required?

The proposed project area is a fast up-coming trading centre with a continuing population growth and vibrant
economic activities which require availability of both Water and Sanitation services to mitigate chances of
outbreak of Hygienic related disease.

7.3 Impact on Environment in the Project Area

Give details of the possible impact on the environment of this project in the project area and indicate the steps
being taken to minimise any adverse effects. (Reference should be made to the geological conditions,
proximity of natural watercourses, water table levels, land gradients and drainage conditions.)

The area is along the coastal line bordering the Indian Ocean. Soils are saline in nature due to its proximity to
the ocean thus sludge disposal is of significance.
 Safe disposal of sludge will be taken care of by the proposed construction of a Sludge handling
facility.
 The existence of an exhauster takes care of the safe transportation of the exhausted sludge
 The recycling of the treated sludge as briquets will provide alternative sources of energy which will
mitigate the current charcoal burning activities which ae common in the project area

Similarly, a total score of 5 or more (the maximum score being 10) indicates a project at high risk to
climate change.
