The student should be able to:

1. Understand the origin and nature of the electric field and electric lines of force and
calculate the flux through various surfaces.
2. Explain the electric properties of various materials.
3. Understand the origin and nature of magnetic lines of force.
4. Explain the behaviour of various materials in a magnetic field and the nature of
magnetic media.
5. Realize the importance of light phenomena in thin films, grating and telescope and
understand their applications.
