Social awareness

Social awareness is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and try to understand
how other people think and act.
What can you do to understand someone else's perspective?

Think about their circumstances. Their life events define much of what they think and do. It
is very important to understand all the circumstances of the other person without judging.
Remember that everybody is going through different circumstances and scenarios. When you
understand someone else's point of view, that is called empathy.
Work in partners.
• A: Present your partner a situation that you need advice on. Give all the details you feel
comfortable sharing. If your partner asks questions, you can decide to answer or not in a
polite way.
• B: Listen to your partner closely. Try to put on his/her shoes and ask how they feel with the

situation. You may ask questions to your partner. They may or may not reply, and that's
OK. Think of some advice you can give.
• Then, switch places.
