any project, the Sr. Program manager, Products Manager, DevOps, and Sr.Director Digital Innovation
will remain responsible and accountable to ensure the effectiveness of this document.
6.2. Each instance will be documented with a unique identifier, divided into 6 small portions i.e XXX-XXX-

6.3 The cloud computing model will be adopted based on the following list of factors

Based on our requirements, the available cloud-based solutions include; VPS, IaaS, and PaaS which
offer several major benefits.

The Virtual Private Servier (VPS) is the oldest and simplest cloud offering and runs on a physical
server hosted at the data center. VPS is costly, has difficulty with scalability, and requires high
maintenance.
The infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) approach allows almost complete flexibility as you could use the
specifications you requested to create one very large and powerful VM or lots of smaller but less

powerful ones. The service provider manages the Virtualization, Storage, Servers, and Networking,
whereas ASCEND has to manage OS, Middleware, Runtime, Data, and Application.

The Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a cloud computing model where a third-party provider delivers
hardware and software tools to users over the internet. The model follows the rule of “Pay as you go”.
ASCEND only have to manage the Application and Data, the rest of the services will be managed by
the service provider.

6.4 The Environment Model will be adopted based on the following list of factors

VPS is old technology with limitations of scalability, higher cost, and high maintenance requirement.
Based on current cloud standards within the Saudi boundaries we have to go with laas and PaaS
models. IaaS is flexible in terms of configuration & maintenance, and it is easy to deploy. PaaS is
complex to configure and requires more time to deploy and has low performance. Difficulties may arise
if PaaS is used in conjunction with existing development platforms.

6.5 Each Production environment will contain a minimum separate instance with the minimum number of
resources starting from;

The minimum resources specification to create a Production instance should be as below;

vCPUs = 2
Storage = 40 GB (SSD)
RAM = 4 GB
OS = Ubuntu/MS Windows Server (based on the business requirements)

6.6 Each staging environment server will contain up to three maximum instances with the following basic
configurations – Process, Ram, HDD

The minimum resources specification to create a staging instance should be as below;

vCPUs = 4
Storage = 80 GB (SSD)
RAM = 8 GB
OS = Ubuntu/MS Windows Server (based on the requirements)

6.7 Each Sandbox / Demo environment server will contain up to three maximum instances with the
following basic configurations

The minimum resources specification to create a Sandbox instance should be as below;

vCPUs = 2
Storage = 40 GB (SSD)
RAM = 4 GB
OS = Ubuntu/MS Windows Server (based on the business requirements)

6.8 For any new instance the approval would be required with business justification and cost and will go
through the SharePoint approval workflow
