Extensive laboratory tests and practical experience have established that Dycem’s unique surface chemistry consistently removes more particulate than ay other method of contamination control, bo'h when Dycem is clean and partially contaminated. The graph (Fig. 1) shows peor mar {OF Sym PARTICLES REMOVED the significantly greater removal efficiency of Bycem ‘compared with peel-off mats as they become progressively = = 3 3 diner, vce oan) Recent tests carried aut in the Glaxo cleanroom at Bath oe FLOOR 2) University have proved that Dycem diminish=s microbial contamination carried by operators’ feet and cart wheels by over 90%. HOW DOES DYCEM WORK? ‘Dycem’s polymeric compound and processing technology produce a material with an optically smooth, flexible surface. This exceptionally smooth surface, comparable to that of a liquid, creates a high degree of suriace energy’ associated with van der Waals forces. This high surface energy enables the Dycem material to attract particulate contamination and prevent it from ertering the clean areas. ‘The scanning electron microscope photographs (Fig. 2) illustrate the smoothness of Dycem, in comparison swith conventional clean room flooring, ‘The Dycem compound produces a soft, cushioned surface, allowing contact with smaller particles that are otherwise shaded from physical contact by larger particles (Fig. 3). This soft surface allows a dense packing of particles and Dycem thus remains effective after continuous contaminating overstrikes in the same area.
