1 INTRODUCTION
The reservoir pressure in Qatar’s North Field has been declining due to continuous production since
the early 1990s. The North Field is the world’s largest natural gas field and accounts for nearly all of the
state of Qatar’s gas production. The principal objective of the NFPS project is to sustain plateau from
existing QG South Operation – RL Dry Gas, RGE Wet gas and existing QG North Operation – QG1 &
QG2, production areas by implementing an integrated and optimum investment program consisting of
subsurface development, pressure drop reduction steps and compression. Refer to Figure below for a
schematic of North Field.

Figure 1-1: North Field Context

NFPS project comprises of 3 main investment programs:

1) Investment #1: Drilling and Associated Facilities
• QG North : QG1 (WHP10N and WHP11N) and QG2 (WHP12N and WHP13N)
• QG South : RGE (WHP12S, WHP13S, WHP14S)
• RL, RGE, QG2 Spare Slots Project
2) Investment #2: Trunk line Looping and Intra-field pipeline looping
• QG North: QG1 32” Looping
• QG South: RL 32” Looping and RGE PL 610 38” Looping
3) Investment #3: Compression
• QG North: QG1 Compression (CP1N) and QG2 Compression (CP4N and CP6N)
• QG South: RL Compression (CP1S) and RGE Compression (CP6S, CP7S, CP4S and CP8S)

Drilling and Looping Investments #1 and #2 are in execution phase and are being executed by I1P1
EPC, EPCO and EPCL projects with the exception of WHP13N, which will be part of NFPS
Compression project execution. The NFPS Compression Project involves the installation of large
offshore compression facilities at multiple locations. The compression facilities will be installed after the
completion of the Drilling and Looping Projects.
Qatargas Operating Company Limited is leading the development of the North Field Production
Sustainability (NFPS) Project. The principal objective of the NFPS project is to economically sustain
plateau from existing QG South (RGE, RL) and QG North (QG1 & QG2) production assets by
implementing an integrated and optimum investment program consisting of subsurface developments,
pressure drop reduction steps and offshore compression facilities installation.
CONTRACTOR is awarded to perform FEED for NFPS Compression Project – RGE, RL and QG2
Facilities.

VALVE INTERLOCK SYSTEM FOR PIG RECEIVER END CLOSURE

Functional Requirements -

1) To ensure total isolation, venting and draining before opening of the Receiver Closure.

2) To provide reliable operational control of this safety critical system with robust and maintenace free Mechanical key interlocks assemblies.

System Description –

Valve interlocking of Pig Receiver End Closure Door and Vent Valve to ensure that End Closure Door cannot be opened whilst Pig Receiver is under pressure.

Depressurization of Pig Receiver

Initially Valve V1 & V2 and End Closure Door of the Pig Receiver are in lock closed position.

Initiating Key A is in the control room key cabinet / In the possession of Operation Team Lead.

Keys B & C are trapped in the locks of vent Valve V1 & V2 respectively.

For receiving of Pig, and depressurization of Pig Receiver, following steps shall be followed:

1) Obtain initiating key A from the control room cabinet issued by Production Supervisor / Operation Team Leader.

2) Insert key A in the lock of vent Valve V1 and open the valve V1.

3) Remove key B from Valve V1. Now key A is trapped in Valve V1, leaving the Valve V1 in locked open position.

4) Insert key B in the lock of vent Valve V2 and open the valve V2.

5) Remove key C from Valve V2. Now key B is trapped in Valve V2, leaving the Valve V2 in locked open position.

6) Insert the key C, in the safety device of receiver End Closure Door, unlock and open the End Closure Door.

7) Now key C is trapped in End Closure Door with End Closure Door in open position.

8) Remove the Pig from the Receiver.

9) The presence of key C in the End Closure indicates that the Receiver is depressurized.

Note

1 EPC Contractor to get approval from COMPANY on the above interlocking sequence, or to modify as per COMPANY requirement during EPC stage.

NOTES
1 Vendor to confirm materials recommended are suitable for the design conditions and fluids.
2 Vendor to submit the wake frequency calculation according to ASME PTC 19.3 TW latest edition to prove that the quill can withstand the design conditions. The calculated wake frequency shall not
exceed 80% natural frequency. The quill schedule to be determined by vendor based on this calculation (S-160 minimum).
3 Sampling quills shall be in accordance to 200-20-PI-SPC-00018 (Specification for Speciality Items).
4 Isolation Ball Valve and Bleed Ball Valve shall comply to 200-20-PI-SPC-00006 (Specification for Manual Valves) requirements.
5 Items shall be supplied with stainless steel tags with a minimum size of eight (8) centimetres (cm) long and two (2) cm wide with the tag number applied by stamping, dye or engraved and attached/
affixed using appropriately sized stainless steel wire.
6 For "A", "B", "D" and "L" dimensions see Figure B.

NOTES
1 The length of quill including all other dimension shall be in accordance to datasheets.
2 The preferred angle is 45°. When required due to space limitations, the angle may be reduced to minimum 15°.
3 It is preferred that the tip of the quill is located in the center line of the header.
4 Sampling quill shall be adequately supported, considering the fatigue loading on branch connections.
5 Tag no. and flow direction for quill shall be marked on the valve.
