Projects
Project Title: FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF ORODISPERSIBLE LIQISOLID COMPACTS
OF NIFEDIPINE FOR DISSOLUTION AND BIOAVAILABILITY ENHANCEMENT
Project Objective/Aim: liquid solid system to enhance the dissolution rate of poor soluble dugs
and orodispersible compacts to give fast disperse in the mouth to make ease for geratic and pediatric
patients Project Outcome: Solubility and dissolution are the major factors that affect the
bioavailability and in vivo performance of the drug. Based on literature, some drugs have high
lipophilicity and poor aqueous solubility resulting in poor bioavailability. Liquisolid technique has
been used successfully to produce a tablet dosage form of Nifedipine by adding super disintegrants
to the formulation which showed faster disintegration and dissolution rate of poorly water soluble
drugs than the conventional tablet. As the liquisolid technology uses similar production processes as
followed to develop conventional tablets. The comparison study showed that the tablet formulate by
adopting Liquisolid technique gave a far better drug release rate than that of a conventional
marketed product. The enhanced dissolution rate of Nifedipine in Liquisolid tablets improves the
solubility, enhanced dissolution of poorly water soluble drug, increased bioavailability of the drug,
improve patient compliance and also it was simple and cost effective method to positively.
