Project 2:- As a mechanical engineering student, developing an automated Industry-specific Robot naturally appealed to
my interests but we hit plenty of roadblocks along the way. For instance, as it was to be used in the shipbuilding industry,
our payload capacity needed to be substantially higher than originally planned. We also faced multiple failures in coming up
with designs that matched all relevant factors of safety. Yet, we kept at it, working together as a team relentlessly until we
had overcome all these hurdles which gave me enormous satisfaction and reinforced my belief of mind over matter.

On a personal front, at a critical point in our project, I suggested considering switching from a 4-wheeled vehicle to a
6-wheeled one, based on a set of calculations that I had performed, to increase stability of the structure at its base. The
results were very promising indeed upon implementation and helped boost my confidence in my own abilities. At the
same time, there were multiple instances when we debated over system designs and implementation, eventually coming to
a conclusion in the best interests of the final goal of our project.

ABOUT YOURSELF
1. What types of assignments/projects, done by you, have kept you engaged and what are those that did not excite
you? (Max 8- 10 lines)

I have worked on projects in diverse fields that have pushed me beyond my comfort zone and forced me to come up with
out of the box solutions, for instance when I had to integrate understanding of Machine Learning and Demographics as a
part of my project at Stanford University. I have always enjoyed working on projects that are essentially looking to provide
a service to a large section of people and is accessible for all. Working on assignments where the importance of team
triumphs the importance attached with a single individual is both engaging and very rewarding for me. I have enjoyed
working on projects where I have had to take charge and lead a team forward.

At the same time, there have been some assignments that induced a sense of monotony if the work set-up was a closed
one and receptive to change. In such cases, I have tried my level best to bring dynamism and freshness to the set-up and
while my efforts met with success on some occasions, I ended up with some not-so exciting experiences as well, which
only reinstated my belief in the importance of a compatible set-up for a project to be fruitful.

2. Describe an incident that has had a deep impact on you and brought about a significant change? (Max 8- 10 lines)

During my tenure as a Senior Reporter at Awaaz IIT Kharagpur, I was faced with a moral dilemma. During publishing of
our Newsletter, where we planned on printing over 4.5k hard copies, we had received a sponsorship offer from a rather
ill-famed Hookah bar in Kharagpur. Now a ruling by the Honourable Chief Minister has essentially disbanded such bars,
some of which continue to exist and in fact thrive, illegally. The offer in question was a very lucrative one and would help
us immensely, yet within the team, after intense discussion, we came to a conclusion that as a media body, our principles
and duty of upholding the law of land far overpowered the short-term benefits usurping them offered.

As luck would have it, within a few months, the bar in question was shut down and we felt morally vindicated. This
experience taught me an invaluable lesson that while a relentless pursuit for excellence is certainly appreciable,
Sustainability and Trust can only be achieved by maintaining high moral standards and compliance with applicable laws.

3. What are your short term and long term objectives? (Max 8- 10 lines)

In the short-term, I wish to put whatever theoretical knowledge that I have gained during my 2-year stay at IIT Kharagpur
to practice in solving everyday challenges and issues that plague a sizable part of the society. I wish to learn diverse skill
sets and, importantly, wish to get opportunities to lead the way forward and improve my man-management skills, which I
believe will play an important role going forward.

When I look at my long-term objectives, I look at a career path where I picture myself leading an organization and
expanding its outreach to unchartered territory. I wish to build a profile for myself where in my prior diverse set of
experiences mould me into an Industry-specialist and via hard work and tenacity, attain success for myself and my team.

4. Why would you like to do a project with ITC & how do you think you can add value to ITC & to yourself? (Max 8-
10 lines)

Based on my own experience with ITC products in possibly every known facet of daily life, their reliability, sustainability
and have always struck me as their Hallmark. Based on my interactions and research, I have concurred that ITC, a
conglomerate company, essentially thrives on distributed leadership and a customer-driven approach to attain
Internationally Benchmarked practices. I have attained a certain degree of theoretical knowledge during my 2-year stay at
IIT Kharagpur and am looking for an opportunity to put it to practical use and further enhance my skill set. Besides, ITC
has a knack for churning out leaders of action and feel that at a nascent stage of my career, working in an environment
that emphasizes upon teamwork, problem-solving and sustainability will only further enhance my development as an
individual, while allowing me add value to ITC’s already vibrant culture with my freshness of thought, hardwork and
integrity.

5. Let us know about any niche skills or advanced knowledge in a subject that would be relevant to this internship.
(Max 8- 10 lines)

In terms of technical skills extending beyond the boundaries of syllabi and academics, I have grasped a good understanding
of customer needs, market segmentation and supply chain management in lieu of complex Industry problems, which I feel
will enable me to get a vantage take on most problems in the FMCG sector in particular where ITC is ever-present.
Having worked on a project in the core sector has also enhanced my skills at optimizing essential parameters for any
product, such as its payload capacity, efficiency, cost, etc. in order to match industry standards and make it cost-effective,
durable and marketable. I am also reasonably skilled at developing and running simulations on softwares and deriving
conclusions accordingly.

With regard to my soft skill set, as I have stated previously, my expertise in niche domain like turncoat debating and an
in-depth knowledge of Indian and Asian Geopolitics (which partially stems from my Armed Forces upbringing) has often
proved a deal-breaker in coming up with strategies and conclusions relevant to the unique Indian diaspora.

6. What type of a work environment brings out the best in you? (Max 8- 10 lines)

I have always thrived working in an environment that embraces change and puts mind over matter. Such a set-up, in my
opinion, creates a playground that rewards team members for ingenuity, creativity and promotes accountability for
high-performance standards set previously, while not compromising upon fundamental principles like trust, excellence or
sustainability. I feel that a work culture which inherently expects us to take responsibility for our actions and take charge
when the need arises will always find ways to stay ahead of the curve and attain success on the back of relentless pursuit
of excellence and thus, will be sustainable in nature. In an ever-changing Industry landscape, it is paramount for a working
environment to be open to change in order to navigate through complex problem statements and maintain trust among
its customer base, or build one for that matter.

7. Describe a situation where you initiated a new idea or approach and implemented it. How did you go about it?
(Max 8- 10 lines)

During my tenure as a Research Apprentice for a project at Cambridge Judge Business School, we were faced with a
Bottle-kneck situation with regards to expanding the funnel that we were creating for integrating Micro-entrepreneurs
under the PM-FME Scheme. So far, we had been reaching out to Micro-entrepreneurs only, who were eligible for the
scheme but we had hit a stagnation. I came up with the idea that we could reach out to Machinery suppliers and ask them
to relay any customer that came up to them, back to us as essentially, every Micro-entrepreneur has to negotiate with
some supplier for his/her equipment. This had a cascading effect as we suddenly diversified our pool of candidates, while
creating a systematic set-up and bringing control to the entire process, which was random until then.

Our efforts were rewarded with a 124.49% YOY increase, thus imbibing within me the belief that knowing when to pivot
is one of the most essential qualities of a good leader and team-player alike.
