The diagram below shows the number of houses built per year in two cities, Derby and

Nottingham, Between 2000 and 2009.

The chart given elucidates the quantity of houses erected on a yearly basis from 2000 to
2009 in two different cities, namely Derby and Nottingham.

Overall, Derby witnessed a stable and considerable rise while the proportion of Nottingham
showed a sharp fluctuation during the time frame.

At the beginning, the houses built in Nottingham, about 50 houses, outnumbered those of
Derby with a small gap. In 2002, however, the figure for Nottingham plunged to about 20
while its counterpart witnessed a surge to 80. During the next five years, average houses
built in Derby seemed unchanged at approximately 120.

As for Nottingham, the figure rose consistently from 50 in 2003 to nearly 80 in 2005. The
number of houses, nevertheless, dropped and climbed repeatedly in the last four years of the
time frame. In 2006, only 5 houses were built whereas the number in the next year was up to
190. Again, the figure dived by 180 to 10 in 2008 and soared to reached its peak at 250 in
the last year. In contrast, a rising number of houses were constructed in 2008 and 2009, 275
and just under 350 respectively.
