Palm Free Emulsifiers

We’ve all seen the controversy over palm plantations – and consumers increasingly continue to call
for RSPO Certified or palm free products. It has been a big industry trend to move toward sourcing
RSPO and palm free products, so with more choice than ever before, we’ll be taking a look at some of
the latest Palm Free Emulsifier launches so you can choose some for your next
developments/redevelopments to meet this ongoing consumer need.

Before we take a look at palm free emulsifiers, we should first clarify:

 Many consumers are still happy with RSPO; if you choose to use RSPO materials then you
should make sure your consumers know this so they realise you are making extra efforts to
ensure palm forest sustainability.
 There may be other ‘palm’ sources in your products you are not aware of; for example, many
glycerines are derived from palm. There may also be the presence of ‘palm’ derived fatty acids
as part of esters or emulsifying blends where you may have assumed otherwise. If you truly
want to be RSPO or palm free, then you need to carefully check every material for any
additives or materials that may go against this philosophy.
 Remember to get a statement from your supplier on all materials to be really sure before you
make a claim of RSPO or palm free!

The list we provide here is by no means exhaustive, but represents some of the most common and/or
latest palm free launches. There are of course many more choices if you allow RSPO sourced palm
oil derivatives in your products. There are also palm free surfactant and lipid options which we have
not listed here – this report will be focussing on emulsifiers but remember to check with your supplier
as they may have more on offer than just what we have listed here!
