Influence of trees on the

environment
Malcolm Smith
Environmental Specialist
By 2050, the earth will be home to
10 billion people.
With more people,
more oxygen is needed
HUMAN IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
Human-driven and natural loss of trees—deforestation—affects wildlife, ecosystems, weather
patterns, and even the climate. Forests cover about 30 percent of the planet's land mass, but humans
are cutting them down, clearing these essential habitats on a massive scale.
Between August 2020 and July 2021, the rainforest lost 10,476 square kilometers – an area nearly
seven times bigger than greater London and 13 times the size of New York City, according to data
released by Imazon, a Brazilian research institute that has been tracking the Amazon deforestation
since 2008. [Source: www.theguardian.com ]
INFLUENCE OF TREES ON
CLIMATIC CONDITIONS

• It influences local
precipitation
• It influences general
precipitation
• It influences atmospheric
humidity
• It has an influence on
transpiration loss
INFLUENCE OF TREES ON EDAPHIC CONDITIONS

• Influences the soil

• Influences the soil temperature
• Influence seepage and water
retention
• Influence wind erosion
• Influence water erosion
• Influence natural springs
• Influences floods
INFLUENCE OF TREES ON BIOTIC
CONDITIONS

Influence animal life;

Trees and Plants are probably the most
important feature in the environment of
terrestrial animals. All animals are dependent
directly or indirectly upon plants for food. TREES
also provides many animals with shelter from
inclement weather, protection from enemies,
situation for homes, and materials for nests.

Influence mankind
Humans depend on TREES for their survival,
from the air we breathe to the wood we use.
Besides providing habitats for animals and
livelihoods for humans, TREES also offer
watershed protection, prevent soil erosion and
mitigate climate change.
SANITARY INFLUENCE OF
TREES

• It has a favorable influence on

weather
• Carbon sink
INFLUENCE OF TREES
ON POLLUTION

Plants and trees are among

the most effective air
conditioners in existence.
Plants and trees are natural
air cleaners.
INFLUENCE ON WATER
POLLUTION
Plants reduces pollution
in water and can hold top
soil in place, thereby
reducing the sediments
and nutrients as a
pollutant to water
resources;
INFLUENCE ON NOISE POLLUTION

Plants and trees masks

unwanted sounds
typically regarded as
noise. It reduces noise
levels dramatically.
What can we do to stop our impact on the
environment?
• Plant more trees;
• Create rooftop gardens;
• Create vertical gardens if you do not have the
space;
• Conserve energy;
• Recycle more…
Now that we know the
importance of trees and
biodiversity
conservation…

… let us do our utmost to

conserve this important
life-enriching source on
planet earth.

We only have one

earth – let us
conserve it for
future generations.
