COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Geoinformatics:
• Powerful set of tools for collecting, storing, retrieving at will, transforming
and displaying of spatial data from the real world (Burrough, 1987).

• “the science and technology dealing with the structure and character of
spatial information, its capture, its classification and qualification, its
storage, processing, portrayal and dissemination, including the
infrastructure necessary to secure optimal use of this information“.

• Geo-informatics is the combination of field surveying, photogrammetry,

geographic information system and remote sensing.
COURSE OBJECTVES:

Geoinformatics:

1. The students will operate with confidence the modern GIS software to monitor the progress and
quality of Civil Engineering projects in the field.

2. They will show dexterity in handling hard copy as well as soft copy maps and incorporate
necessary improvements and revisions in the maps as and when required.
PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: :

• Geo-informatics play an important role in providing assistance to various sub fields of Civil Engineering such as

➢ urban planning and land use management,

➢ environmental modelling and analysis,
➢ traffic management analysis, flood monitoring,
➢ architecture and town planning, irrigation systems,
➢ water supply systems,
➢ sewage disposal systems,
➢ construction project management, etc.
