Evacuation and Charging
PROCEDURES
o Connect manifold gauge set to high and low side Service Ports if not
already done.
o Connect Yellow hose from Manifold Gauge Set to refrigerant tank and
open valve on tank.
o Invert refrigerant tank and place on scale. (Liquid Charge)
o Zero Scale.
o Open the High Side (red) valve to allow liquid refrigerant to enter the
system. At the same time monitor the low side pressure. You should
notice a pressure rise if no internal restrictions are present.
o Observe scale reading. CLOSE HIGH SIDE (red) MANIFOLD GAUGE
VALVE when proper charge amount is reached or when no more
refrigerant is entering system.
o If the system has filled completely with refrigerant conduct a system
evaluation.
o If additional refrigerant is needed to charge the system to the
prescribed amount, you will need to finish charging by running the
vehicle with the A/C On at high blower speed. (INSURE HIGH AND
LOW SIDE VALVES ON MANIFOLD GAUGE ARE CLOSED)
o Observe suction pressure with vehicle at idle for 20-30 seconds.
o Crack Open Low Side (blue) gauge valve to allow refrigerant to slowly
enter the low side of the a./c system. Suction pressure should not be
allowed to increase more than 10 psi over previous reading.
o Monitor scale reading. Close Low Side Manifold Gauge Valve when
prescribed amount of refrigerant is reached.
o Conduct System Evaluation. (Check system Pressures, Temperatures,
Condenser Fan Operation). Both copper fittings into and out of
evaporator should be equally cold. Condenser fan should cycle on at
roughly 300 psig and may cycle off at 225 psig.
o Equalize Gauge Set: If a/c system is working properly remove
remaining refrigerant from gauge set. Close and remove High Side
(red) service valve and slowly metering remaining refrigerant through
Low Side (blue) valve with engine running and a/c on.
o Remove low side service valve and CAP SERVICE PORTS.
o End of A/C Charging Procedure
