Sariaya East and West District male teachers and school heads collaborated to cascade the

topics discussed at the Division Conference regarding MACHETE/MOVE at last June 17, 2023 at Lawin
Resort, Barangay Sampaloc 2, Sariaya, Quezon. The Program started at exactly 8:00 am and ended at
4:00 pm.

The program started by the singing of the National Anthem followed by a prayer. Sir Marvin De
Alday, Head Teacher I and Chairman of the event, welcomed all the registered participants. It was
followed by a word of wisdom coming from Sir Phelmore Buerano, Master Teacher I and SED MACHETE
Vice President. Sir Bonifacio A. Remo, OIC School Principal I, and SED District GAD Coordinator and Sir
Gerry Sanggalang, Head Teacher I- SWD District GAD Coordinator also left encouraging messages.

Sir Carlito B. Gunay, District Supervisor of SWD, motivated all teacher participants to strive
hard for the betterment of the MACHETE organization. He put emphasis on the role of male teachers in
management and leadership in the Department of Education, as male teachers play a vital role in nation
building. Sir Jessie Vasquez, Principal IV of Quezon National High School also expressed his love and
concern for MACHETE. He stated that male teachers must take full responsibility for their actions
everywhere, whether at home, in the workplace or in their respective community. Sir Ryan Decena,
GILAS MOVE President also showed his concern about the importance of having this kind of event as, it
built camaraderie, fellowship and collaboration among male teachers. Sir Eddie Ismael Emor, newly
elected President of Teachers Organization in the Division of Quezon, also expressed his deepest
gratitude to the participants who supported him during his campaign. He said that it would never be
possible without the tremendous support coming from the teachers of SED and SWD. After that, Sir,
Ericson Lorena, Budget Officer of the Municipality of Sariaya, assured all participants that they would
allocate more budget to continue these kinds of GAD activities. After the messages from the presidential
tables, Sir Claro Sarez, Teacher II from SWD presented the participants and led an energizer. Shortly, it
was followed by Sir Reinnard Christian Merano, PhD. OIC – School Principal I – SED MACHETE
President, for the statement of purpose of the program. There was quick meal break before the resource
speakers started their engagement with the participants.

Sir Ramcis Mark D. Rago, Master Teacher I, hosted the program. He introduced the following
resource speakers: The first speaker was Sir Joel S. Oktobre Teacher II. He discussed Men Opposed to
Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE’s History and Goals). He was followed by Sir Bonifacio R.
Remo, OIC Principal I, on basic gender and development concepts. After that, Sir Kelvin A. Ramintas T-III
enlightened the participants regarding the understanding of sexual orientation, gender identity,
expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC). Rekindling the MACHETE Initiative of SDO Quezon was
discussed by Sir Jeric Urcian and Sir Claro Sarez. GAD Planning and Budgeting was expertly discussed
by Sir Erwin P. Del Rosario, Teacher III. Sir Welvin Binay, Teacher III, showed the comprehensive
procedures for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of GAD programs. Magna Carta for
Women was revisited by Sir Jer Alvin B. Basanez, Teacher III, and, lastly, the content of the Safe Spaces
Act was itemized by Sir Roy P. Mercadejas, Teacher III. The discussions became very productive as the
participants were very eager and enthusiastic as they actively participated during the discussions. The
speakers were very knowledgeable about the topics, and they made sure that the participants were well
educated and fully informed regarding some matters and issues.

The last part of the program was the awarding of certificates of recognition to the resource
speakers and technical working committees and the awarding of certificates of participation to the male
teacher participants from SED and SWD. Photo ops were made, and fellowship and companionship were
made after the program. Indeed, the program started and ended well; participants even requested to have
this kind of seminar annually to build lasting relationships among two districts.
