ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
Bharathiar University (BU) was founded by the
Government of Tamil Nadu in February 1982, under the Bharathiar
University Act 1981. The institution, named after the eminent
visionary and revolutionary national poet Subramania Bharathi,
functions with the motto of "Educate to Elevate" and has evolved as
a prominent research-intensive institute of higher education in the
region. Located in the foothills of Marudhamalai, along the
Western Ghats, BU covers a sprawling area of 778.89 acres and
has excellent connectivity through road, rail and air, making it
easily accessible from all parts of the state and the country.BU has
received the prestigious 'A++' Grade from the National
Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the Fourth cycle
of assessment, which underscores the high quality of education
and research being imparted at the university. The institution
boasts of 38 depar tments under 13 schools, offering 4
undergraduate programmes, 47 postgraduate and 12
postgraduate diploma courses, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes.
With nearly 3000 postgraduate students and more than 1100
research scholars pursuing their higher studies in the campus, BU
is a hub of academic excellence.The university's territorial
jurisdiction covers Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur and The Nilgiris
districts and is endowed with 140 afliated colleges, out of which
20 are Government colleges, 16 are aided colleges, 1 air force
college, 13 Management Institutions and the remaining 90 are

with around 1000 research articles published every year.
Moreover, the university has been granted eight patents and twelve
copyrights, further solidifying its position as a leader in research
and innovation.
The university has received immense support from
government agencies such as UGC – CPEPA, UGC-SAP, DST-FIST,
DST-PURSE, DBT-PG Programme MoE – RUSA, DRDO, etc.,
through research grants. This support has enabled the university
to establish research facilities that are on par with international
standards.
Notably, Bharathiar University houses the DRDO-Industry
Academia Centre of Excellence, an autonomous research institute
jointly established by DRDO, the Ministry of Defence, the
Government of India, Bharathiar University, and the Government of
Tamil Nadu. This research facility is dedicated to pursuing both
basic and applied research for defence.

The following instructions are to be read carefully and adhered strictly

The selection will be made based on the marks obtained by the students upto V th semester (if it is a semester
pattern)/II year of study (if it is non-semester) UG degree programme. In the UG degree programme in all subjects other
than part l / ll Languages and subjects like General Knowledge, NSS, irrespective of the candidate appearing for 2023
examinations or already qualified for the award of degree shall be considered for preparing the merit list.

FREE EDUCATION SCHEME

Free Education Scheme offered by the University enables free education to the poor and meritorious students. It is
offered to one candidate from each department, admitted into various degree programmes of the University. The free
education scheme is applicable only to the students who fulfill the norms framed by the University.

RESERVATION NORMS AND FEE CONCESSION #

Ø Admission will be made strictly on the basis of the reservation policy of Government of Tamil Nadu.
Ø Students belong to Scheduled Tribal Community alone are exempted from paying the Tuition Fee under TNER - 92,
Government of Tamil Nadu.
Ø 5% of the seats are reserved for Differently abled students in all the programmes and they are exempted from
paying the tuition fee and special fee for all categories of students (on production of disability certificate)
and Visually Challenged students will be given full fee waiver.

LIFE AT BHARATHIAR UNIVERSITY
History
Bharathiar University was established in 1982 with the motto
"Educate to Elevate". It is ranked 13th among universities and
21st among the top 100 institutions in the NIRF 2020
rankings. The university is located in the foothills of the
Western Ghats, approximately 12km from Coimbatore city,
and occupies a sprawling 778.89 acre green campus. As a
leading arts and science university in the state, it fosters a
culture of research and integrates industry into the
curriculum with a focus on teaching excellence and
innovation.
The Faculty
The university offers over 50 programs across disciplines,
led by a committed and exceptional faculty. The dedicated
scientists at the university have a strong research base,
recognized as a Centre with Potential for Excellence in a
Par ticular Area (CPEPA) by the University Grants
Commission (UGC) and the Department of Science and
Technology - Promotion of University Research and
Scientic Excellence (DST-PURSE). Over 122 faculty
members have achieved a high h-index in Scopus for their
remarkable contributions.
Amenities
The university provides well-organized transpor tation
facilities for faculty, students, and staff to commute across
the city. The campus is located in a well-connected place
with frequent buses from various parts of the city. In addition,
the university operates ve hostels each for boys and girls
and one hostel for international students. The university also

Computing Facilities
Bharathiar University boasts a state-of-the-art data center
equipped with the latest technology and 1 GBPS broadband
connectivity. The internet center is outtted with high-speed
internet servers, scanners, web cameras, printer-copier
machines, and multimedia accessibility. Additionally, each
department has access to broadband internet connectivity
with LAN and Wi-Fi for both students and faculty. Moreover,
the university is connected to the MHRD national knowledge
network (NKN) for seamless access to resources.
Library
The library is housed in a separate building and contains a
collection of over 190,000 books covering all subjects taught
in the university departments. The library is equipped with a
digital open access system with a catalog searchable
through computer terminals and the UGC - INFLIBNET. The
library also provides open access to a vast range of
electronic resources for further research development and
enhancement. Recently, the library was updated with RFID
technology for efcient management.
Scholarships and Awards
The university offers various scholarships and awards,
including government of India scholarships for merit and
communal reservations (BC, MBC, SC, and ST) for PG
students. UGC-sponsored scholarships such as Single Girl
Child, Rank Holders, Rajiv Gandhi, JRF & SRF are also
