Facies Discussion

From the facies analysis, the depositional environment of Shwezetaw Formation can be
interpreted as the Shwezetaw Formation was deposited under deltaic condition upon shelf to
offshore deposit of Yaw Formation at starting Early Oligocene time.
Thick bedded shale/clay facies represent shelf/offshore environment of Yaw Formation
was terminated by deltaic facies of Shwezetaw Formation in Early Oligocene time. The sea level
regressed and thick accumulation of sand bodies denoted shallowing condition of depositional
area. Distributary channels sands, distributaries mouth bar sands and delta front sand bar
deposited in that available depositional area.
These sands were overlaid by thick bedded shale of prodelta environment indicate that
the depositional environment was transgressed.
Thick bedded shales were probably deposited by suspension in low energy environment.
Thinly bedded sand intercalations represent storm generated condition. The sand and shale
alternations were deposited due to minor transgressive-regressive cycles.
The whole sequence of Shwezetaw Formation was thought to be high stand positon upon
high stand-low stand condition. The sea level during the deposition of Shwezetaw Formation was
regressive-transgressive nature in cohesive with the global sea level changes proposed by Haq et
al (1987).
