world?

greater functional ability in someone with a given

Age-friendly society
• Age-friendly society means the environment that support older
population in all dimensions especially physical and psychological
aspects.

• WHO mentioned that


• Age-friendly environments foster healthy and active ageing.
• They enable older people
• age safely in a place that is right for them
• Older people are free from poverty;
• continue to develop personally;
• contribute to their communities while retaining autonomy,
health and dignity.
• OP are at the centre of any effort to create a more age-
friendly world.

Global policy on ageing
The International Plan of Action on Ageing adopted at the first World
Assembly on Ageing in Vienna, Austria in 1982

Asia-Pacific Report on Population Ageing 2022
• ESCAP, one of the five regional commissions of the United Nation,
produced the Asia-Pacific Report on Population Ageing 2022 Trends,
policies and good practices regarding older persons and population
ageing. Three domains were proposed.

❑Healthy ageing is a must
❑Ensuring enabling and supportive environments
Age-friendly Society
In an age-friendly city, policies, services, settings and structures support and
enable people to age actively by:
• recognizing the wide range of capacities and resources among older
people;
• anticipating and responding flexibly to ageing-related needs and
preferences
• respecting their decisions and lifestyle choices
• protecting those who are most vulnerable
• promoting their inclusion in and contribution to all areas of community life.

Important messages about age-friendly
society
• An age-friendly society is not just “elderly friendly” but also for
disabled people, children and women.
• To build barrier-free buildings and streets enhance the mobility and
independence of people with disabilities, the young as well as old.
• Secure neighborhoods allow children, younger women and older
people to venture outside in confidence to participate in physically
active leisure and in social activities.

1. Thailand has promoted active ageing and age-friendly
Conclusions policy and practices by adopting Vienna International
Plan of Action, MIPAA and WHO Global Age-friendly
guideline
2. Social enterprise and local government organization
seem to be a leader to support age-friendly society in
Thailand

areas are using the same concept but it is different in
terms of infrastructure, people need and lifestyle.
