FOREWARD
Two points off the bat...
Number One: Just about everything good in this booklet is from the mind of Logan Knight thankfully
putting ideas for running his Viriconium-like city, Cörpathium, up under a Creative Commons license.
We're all busy so it is super nice when folks share. If you enjoy any of this you'd be well-served
checking out Logan's website for his full-blown Cörpathium stuff.
Number Two: Because it ought be mentioned, this is NOT the City of Troika. This material is just what
I use for the time-being in my Troika! game until Daniel Sell makes something else.
Troika! had been popping up in my “recommended” lists for sometime when I purchased
various old-style rpg products. I was looking for something simple that I could play more frequently.
Attracting me to Troika! were the Illustrations (by Jeremy Duncan, Dirk Detweiler Leichty, Sam
Mameli, and Andrew Walter). Reading reviews I learned that the ultra simple and discrete rules
promulgated by Daniel Sell are evolved from an old 1980s choose-your-own-adventure series called
Fighting Fantasy. The distinction of Fighting Fantasy is having characters with attributes run through
the adventures and a dice-roll mechanic to determine outcomes furthering the campaign.
Well, it happened Fighting Fantasy sounded awfully similar to a series of choose-your-own-
adventure books I absolutely loved called Steve Jackson's Sorcery! Fantastically enough, these books
ARE part of the Fighting Fantasy canon, but not assigned numbers within the Fighting Fantasy series.
For me, this was too much – I was hooked and started assembling rules and information to run
a Troika! Campaign. However, I soon discovered that there while there are lots and lots (and lots) of
character backgrounds, quite a small amount of campaigning supplements exist. Thus to begin my
hodgepodge Frankenstein's monster Troika! campaign in the actual city of Troika I used the intro
adventure from the rules, The Blancmange & Thistle, along with a section map and several locations
Daniel Sell put out on his blog (whatwouldconando.blogspot.com/2018/07/bit-o-troika.html).
“I want more life, f****r.” With such little actual Troika city I started to delve into where Daniel
Sell got his inspiration: a series of science-fantasy novels involving this shifting dystopian-dark future
Earth city of Viriconium written by M. John Harrison between 1971 and 1984. Surmising if the actual
city of Troika is not yet available, has anyone done rpg work on Virconium? Low and behold that led
me to Logan Knight's excellent creations. Logan has a love for Viriconium and modeled his own
setting after it, even tables randomizing locales each visit as does the original Viriconium.
In my own version I incorporated a city map (my bad, M. John Harrisan disdains maps) from
Medieval City Map Generator by Watabou (watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator) and
slipped in a lo-res integration of what map Daniel Sell had posted. I also borrowed some of the
Viriconium setting history from The Pastel City (1971) novel to get some backstory. As an overland
map I use the old Sorcery! map from the Titannica archives (fightingfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Titan_-
_The_Fighting_Fantasy_World) sans place names with Troika the city occupying the place of Kharé
the city. (I may use the Sorcery! setting as the ancient past of my Troika.)
Although I assembled this booklet for my personal game, I hope other Troika! players will find
the content useful and fun. As a design philosophy Troika! scenarios should be random as possible.

Fishwall Gullet

Gaping fish-like lips emerging from the

like a cavernous throat, an inviting tongue lolled

The Common Gate

Six severed goat heads hang from the

walls along the gateway, hung with wooden
charms. A low keening crawls from their throats
and their nostrils flow with a lurid pink mucus
when something unnatural moves in their
presence. (Lambspring Woodcut, 1625, Ouroboros)

The heads need to be prepared and

replaced weekly as they rot.
