Boeing MCAS System and the Two 737 MAX Crash

There are two aircraft manufactures in competition, Airbus and Boeing. In 2010, Airbus
announced new updated aircrafts which was A320neo. The aircraft was much larger and had fuel
efficient engines. When Boeing heard if this update, they started updating their 737 aircrafts to
737 MAX which entered service in 2017 and became of the fastest-selling airlines of all time.
The aircrafts did not have any problems at first until 2018 when the first crash happened and the
second crash in 2019 killing more than 300 hundred passengers and crew members in total.
There were many failures that contributed to the crash but one of the main one is the MCAS
system. The MCAS was implemented to improve aircraft handling characteristics and decrease
pitch-up tendency at elevated angle of attacks but that did not work out as planned and led to the
two crashes. The MCAS has a strong force which caused both planes into nosedives as the pilots
struggled and failed to regain control. This is an example of ethical engineering failure because
the engineers behind the invention failed to ensure the safety of the public. The design and the
software program did not work out as planned which killed many people.
