Needed parts
And a basic tooling set to open the instrument and exchange an EPROM.
The Junior has been delivered with two different computers types, the ECM-3610 and the ECM
3412.
The computer type is indicated by the third line on the monitor at the moment the computer is
started up.
A software upgrade on a 3412 computer is not possible, the reaction time of this computer is not
acceptable.
This software is intended for the ECM-3610 computer, do not install this software
on an ECM-3412 computer.
Backup
Results backup
The results stored to disk in the preceding software versions are not accessible in the Error! Not a
valid link. software.
When you need to access the measurement results of the former software version, for regulatory
affairs for instance, you have to print historical results on paper or retrieve them from your LIS.
Results that are still available in the Evaluate Samples menu [F7] should also be printed.
Safety backup
To make it possible to return to the original (foregoing) software platform make a copy of the entire
Junior folder.
Select the “Junior” folder, located in the “C:\Program Files” folder, by clicking it one time
with the left mouse button.
Press the [Ctrl] + [c] key at the same time to make a copy of the “XL Analyser” folder.
Press the [Crtl] + [v] key to create a copy of the” XL Analyzer” folder (called
“Copy of Junior” folder).
In case you are upgrading form software level 1.xx the Eprom of the system board has to be
upgraded to version V 0.2.1.
When the former software level is 4.xx the correct Eprom V 0.2.1 is already installed in the
instrument.
Hint: In the installation [F2] release menu you can check the version of the masterprom, If the
version is NPJ V0.2.1 you do not need to upgrade the Eprom of the system board.
Remove the back panel (6) by loosening the two indicated Allen head screws, to get
excess to the electronic boards.
Take the appropriate ESD precautions (wrist strap), and remove the EPROM
6002 l13 V x.x.x located on the on the system board (position A5)
and replace it by the EPROM 6002-113 Version V 0.2.1
Be careful that the contacts do not bend, and be sure the small indicator is facing the same
direction as the indicator on the IC holder.
Change of filters
This chapter is only applicable for update set update set 6003-111 in this set two filters for Elitech ®
reagents (660 and 700nm) are included.
Switch off the instrument and remove the power cable from the power inlet.
Remove the front cover by lifting it and pulling it towards your self.
Remove the black front plate by removing the (4) indicated Allen head screws.
Open the left front door and turn the blockade 90o clock wise.

Useful information
The dealer password for this software version is the same as in the former version, for more
information contact the service department.
Although we have tested this software intensively it is possible that there is a small software
imperfection that we did not notice in our investigations.
For eventual debugging we might ask you to send the Error report. (see table underneath).
In some specific situations we might ask you to send the analyzer communication host
communication or action logging.
Y = year
M = month
D = day
H =Hour
M = minute
S = Second
To access the windows explorer when the Junior application is running, you first have to go to the
Junior Shell. You can do this by pressing the [Alt] & [Tab] at the same time.
Than select the shell sign by pressing the [Tab] Key several times. When you release the
key’s you will enter the Junior shell and you can perform the needed actions.

Release notes
The following list is a summarized list of changes / new features. Please refer to the user manual
for a complete overview and a description of the new possibilities.
Printouts
Presentation on printouts has been improved.
Default printouts of result will print as many patient reports as will fit on one page.
Extended report setup possibilities.
Printouts will be generated as soon as measuring on tests has been completed,
printouts may contain *INFO* messages indicating that result is not yet finalized.
Daily maintenance report printout can be reprinted at any time.
Passwords
Important parameters can be protected with a password. This password limits
access to test parameters, control parameters, calibration parameters, service
menu, system configuration, etc.
The number of available positions for test programming can be limited by use of
special password.
Calculated Results
Calculated results can be defined freely as a formula.
A calculated result can be requested for a sample, the software will automatically
request the tests needed to calculate the result.
A calculated result will be printed on default printouts.
Request samples
Order of entry fields on screen changed.
Sample types for regular samples renamed to reflect priority: Stat, Asap, and
Routine (instead of sample types: Stat, pediatric, normal, which isn’t translatable to
non-clinical use).
Order of tests can be defined by the user.
Different method for requesting controls, single screen to define control request
including possibility to define repeats.
Possibility to configure for batch oriented test requesting.
Host
New additional host protocol: CLSI LIS2-A (formerly NCCLS LIS2-A which was
formerly ASTM E1394-97). Reagent position independent, Instrument independent.
Host query support in LIS2-A host protocol.
Results can be transmitted to host as soon as they are ready. Previously results
where not transmitted until all results for a sample where ready.
Host can be connected by TCP/IP as well as Serial port.
Calibrations
Additional curve fit routines:
Standard cubic spline – the textbook cubic spline function with draws a curve
through all the calibration points.
Smoothed cubic spline – the cubic spline function from Junior v1.2. It tries to draw
as smooth a cubic spline function as possible and may deviate from calibration
points if it results in a smoother function.
Point-to-point – A linear line is drawn from each calibration point to the next
Linear Regression – A linear line is drawn trying to stay as close to the calibration
points as possible.
4-point Logit-log, 5-point Logit-Log, 5-point exponential Logit-log – Logit-log
functions.
Possibility to define duplicate difference limits on individual calibration points.
Possibility to require operator evaluation of calibration curve.
For prediluted calibrators it is possible to use a diluent-only as 0-standard.
Factors used for calibration curve can be inspected.
Printout contains all calibration information on a single page.
Check for absorbance values outside calibration range. Values of +- 1% of lowest
and highest calibrator get flagged with outside calibration range flag.
Possible to select which standards from a multi-standard calibrator are to be used.
Controls
When programming a control with Westgard checks, only a Standard deviation
needs to be provided.
Reagent positioning
User interface improvement on reagent positioning.
Free reagent positioning (A diluent may also be used for a sample blank reagent,
reagents can be freely shared between tests).
Test execution
Load/Unload request.
Batch oriented measuring.
Possibilities to configure automatic handling of accept/reject and rerun of results in
case of error flags.
Results are presented in tree-structure.
Results are presented in order defined by user.
Results can be exported to a text file in three different formats. The results can be
imported again in (for instance) Microsoft excel.
Measured results are not overwritten in case of re-measure or rerun.
Results are automatically stored to an archive file if number of results in buffer
exceeds a certain number.
Blank/Calibrator information screen shows more relevant information and allows
viewing the calibration details.
Archived results
Results are archived to archive files, including all test parameters etc. that lead to
the result.
Search function to search for results in the archive files.
Archived results can be printed on default report as well as user defined custom
report layout.
DryISE
DryISE parameters are synchronized at start up of application. Buttons ‘Sync Set
1..4’ have been removed since changes are automatically synchronized.
Handheld bar-coding
Dedicated to reading of Elitech reagent barcodes.
The expiry date is read from the reagent barcode immediately into the application
and is set to the last day of the month.
Samples can be requested and selected by scanning the barcode.
System
User interface improvements in system menu.
System configuration items moved to separate menu in service functions.
Changes log keeps track of changes to test parameters and system settings.
Restore points allow to save settings and restore to that point later.
Import/Export functions.
Extended error reporting. In case of a critical software error, all necessary files are
stored to a single error report which is saved to My Documents\Analyzer
Error Reports.
System boots immediately to Junior software.
Configurability to non-clinical use.
Quick menu is optional.
Cuvettes can be marked as ‘stained’ to extend life of the cuvette rotor. Stained
cuvettes will not be used for measurements.
Host protocol
With the introduction of this new software there is a possibility to choose between two host
communication protocols.
The Vital proprietary protocol and the standardized CLSI LIS2-A protocol.
The Vital proprietary protocol is 100 % with the protocol in the former software version.
A description of both protocols is available on the documentation CD delivered with this update set.
