Chemical Inventory Storage
TITLE:
1.0 Objective
This standard outlines the minimum requirements for Warehouse inventory storage of material.
2.0 Scope
This document applies to all operations in DFSP for storage at Warehouses inside and outside of facilities.

4.0 Definitions
Inventory Storage – Defined as any products or material stored to be used for customer jobs.
5.0 Requirements
5.1. Inventory shall only be stored in approved storage areas and must be approved by local
management and HSE to make sure country and regulatory requirements are met for any outside
storage.
5.2. Storage of material must be on compacted or level ground when stacking pallets with drums or
liquid material.
5.3. Inventory storage of materials shall be placed in appropriate bins, shelves, racks or swim lanes and
clearly labeled.
5.4. Shelf life dates on any products stored in Inventory Storage shall be listed (on pallets, lanes, racks,
products, etc.) using any method to identify materials expiration dates and system for traceability
5.5. Material shelf life must be obtainable for all products.
5.6.
NOTE: Fluids mixed and stored at Stock Point locations shall be exempt
from shelf life requirement but shall follow validation lab testing prior to
release to customer and this testing shall validate product quality.
5.7. MSDS Books or sheets must be accessible to all employees working around products and where
hardcopy books are used they must have table of contents with review date and sign-off.
5.8. Inventory shall be stored using FIFO (First-In-First-Out) methodology based on shelf life
expiration dates of products. Layout done as per local work methods.
5.9. Layout of warehouse for FIFO and storage shall be established locally and process flow, color
coded chart, or other documented work method shall be used to further clarify process.
5.10. Customer owned material or products shall be segregated from another inventory and clearly
marked with identifier.
5.12. Hazard and warning labels shall be on products as per DFSP HSE Standards
5.13. Stacking of inventory material in storage shall be as follows in order to reduce safety risks:
Stacking Pallets with ~200 liter drums (55 gallon drums) both liquid and solids
Steel drums - 4 drums per pallet - 2 pallets may be stacked. 3 may be stacked if drums
are secured with approved steel, fibreglass, or fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP) straps
Plastic drums - 4 drums per pallet – 2 pallets high
Plastic pails and jugs – 2 pallets high
5.14. Storage of any inventory not listed in this standard must have risk assessment done prior to
storage.
