INTRODUCTION

MODULE 3: E-LEARNING EDUCATION AND VIDEO CONFERENCING

Today, we are going to learn about e-learning education and video conferencing. We will
start by defining what is e-learning and video conferencing, its types and its advantages and
disadvantages.

WHAT IS E-LEARNING EDUCATION???

E-learning is a type of learning

conducted digitally via electronic media,
typically involving the internet. E-Learning
consist of teaching can be based in or out of
the Classrooms, the use of computers and the
Internet.

It can be accessed via most

electronic devices including a computer,
laptop, tablet or smartphone, making it a
versatile and easy way for students to learn
wherever they are.

FORMS OF E-LEARNING

 SYNCHRONOUS
 ASYNCHRONOUS

Synchronous- the communication between the provider and the receiver happens directly as in
chat rooms, or video-audio conferencing.

Video conferencing is an online

technology that allows users in different
locations to hold face-to-face meetings without
having to move to a single location together.

TYPES OF VIDEO CONFERENCING

1. Conversations

Perhaps the most common and intimate way

people use video conferencing is through one-
on-one video calls.

2. Internal video calls/team meetings

Internal video meetings are essential for keeping all team members in the loop, especially for
companies that have remote employees and more than one office location.

3. External video calls/customer and vendor relationships

It’s obvious that it’s easier to build better client relationships when you can see them face to face.

4. Large/all-hands meetings

Town halls and all-hands video conferencing meetings generally take place in large meeting
spaces and auditoriums with a number of remote employees calling in.

Asynchronous- The information

is passed through forums,
emails, wikis, etc. You can
access and complete lectures,
readings, homework and other
learning materials at any time
during a one- or two-week
period. This includes watching
pre-recorded lecture videos or
lessons. Viewing video
demonstrations. Reading and
writing assignments.

BENEFITS OF E-LEARNING IN EDUCATION

 Online Learning can accommodate everyone’s needs

 Classes can be taken from any place and at the time which students or tutors prefer.
 It ensures quick delivery of lessons.
 The method is made available at much-reduced costs.
 Effectiveness of the transferred or imparted knowledge and learning is high and
powerful.
 Missed lessons can always be taken again online. This makes it easier for tutors to impart
the right information.
 It promotes a self-paced learning process.
 Through e-learning, students can develop a self-paced training schedule.
 They can take online sessions after work, in the evening, on the weekends, or whenever
they are free.

BENEFITS OF E-LEARNING TO STUDENTS

 You can access the study material unlimited times.

 You can study your Courses anytime and anywhere.
 Students can access updated content when they want.
 Unlike the traditional method of teaching, e-learning has a quick mode of delivery. This
indicates that learning time is reduced.
 All students can receive the same type of syllabus, study materials and train through E-
Learning.
 Through E-Learning, you can save time, money and reduced transportation cost. so, E-
Learning is cost-effective compared to traditional learning.
 E-Learning is provided online so No need for papers like traditional learning. Thus, we can
save the Environment through this.

DISADVANTAGES OF E-LEARNING

1. Lacks social interaction

E-learning is one of the causes of social isolation because you don’t see your teachers and
classmates face-to-face anymore. Interaction is very limited to none.

2. Inaccessible to others

Consider yourself lucky if you’re located in an area where the internet connection is fast
and stable. Unfortunately, some have very limited access to the internet. They have to go to
internet cafes or use public Wi-Fis which is very inconvenient.

3. Cheating is unavoidable

E-learning includes assessment, just like in a regular classroom setting. However, there
are no teachers or proctors to watch over you during exams. It’s easy for online students to share
answers knowing there’s nobody watching.

4. Requires self-motivation and proper time management skills

You’re basically on your own in e-learning. You have to motivate yourself to study hard,
take down notes, and gather more information. You should also manage your time well by
learning how to juggle studying while doing other things like household chores or earning money
part-time.

5. Focuses more on theory

You’ll spend most of your time listening to podcasts, watching videos, and looking at
slide presentations. There’s no hand-on experience like conducting experiments.
