Activity #

I. Objectives
In this activity, you should be able to:
a. Describe the motion of an object in terms of distance or
displacement.
b. Differentiate distance and displacement in terms of magnitude
and direction.
c. Measure the distance and displacement of a moving object

II. Materials
Ruler
Pencil

III. Procedure
Read and answer the questions in the following situation.

Johnny wanted to go to the house of Tony to make a

project in Physics. He walked for 15 m East, then 20 m North.
He took a rest for 15 minutes and started to walk 8 m going
to west.
1. Using scale 1 cm = 1m, draw the paths taken by Johnny.
2. Using a ball pen , draw a straight line connecting the starting points and the
last points of Johny’s path.

Q1.What is the total path taken by Johnny in going to Tony’s house?

Ans. The total path taken by Jhony in going to Tony’s house is _______meters

Q2. What is the measurement you obtained when you connect the point of origin of
Johny to the point of his destination ,that is Johny's house?

Ans. The measurement between the point of origin to the point of destination is
_____________meters.

Q3. Based on the activity, what is the difference between distance and
displacement?

Answer (Displacement , Distance )__________________refers to the

length of the entire path that the object travelled while ( distance,
displacement ___________________refers to the shortest distance
between the object two positions, like its point of origin and its point of
destination.
