Golden Joints Inspection (refer Company Doc No: T-14.192.

308)

Before welding

Witness and verify that the area of the existing line where the golden weld is going to be carried out is
free from laminations and has the required thickness.

PMI testing (100%), confirmation of correct usage of base material and weld consumables shall be
completed prior to fit up preparation

Cut and prepare bevel in accordance with the applicable WPS After tube cutting a dedicate manual
Ultrasonic Test (UT) examination shall be carried out with a straight beam probe (thickness/lamellar
tearing check/lamination check).

VT (100%) and MT/PT (100%) shall be carried out on beveled edges.

Make fit-up in accordance with the applicable WPS If tack welds, other than bridge type are used, it shall
be feathered both ends of each tack and visually inspected.

Circumferential TIE-IN GOLDEN WELD joints (Tie-In Closure Welds) shall be done by approved WPSs &
PQRs using the ROOT run with GTAW welding process; the HOT run, FILL run and CAP run shall be done
with basic coated low hydrogen SMAW welding process

An experienced welder who has a low weld repair rate (weekly rejection rate ≤0,7%) shall perform the
closure weld.

During welding

For all GOLDEN WELD joints (closure welds) shall be applied the “Controlled Equispaced Sequential
Welding”

VT (100%) Visual Inspection of the root of the weld, by leaving the final sector of root bead open,
(100mm), with a pen light, to ensure defects such as lack of root fusion aren’t present

MT/PT (100%) Magnetic Test or Penetrant Test of the completed root of the weld.

MT/PT (100%) every 6mm of weld deposit, depending on the preheat requirements of the materials
being welded.(inprocess ndt)

Correct filler metals storage and baking. - Welding and allied process parameters, (special care to
preheat and interpass temperature shall be verified by means of digital thermometers and heat input)

After welding

Perform final Visual Inspection of completed welds. Final NDT inspection before and after PWHT (if
PWHT is applicable): -

VT (100%) and MT/PT (100%). - RT (100%). In case of Post Weld Heat Treatment, Ultrasonic Test and
Radiographic Test shall be repeated before and after the Post Weld Heat Treatment

The RT acceptance criteria for GOLDEN WELD joints (Closure Welds) shall be “severe cyclic service” as
per ASME B31.3, Table 341.3.2 regardless of piping class. Automatic Ultrasonic Test (UT) (100%)
examination with automatic computer based data acquisition carried out by experienced NDT
contractor.

Tie in joint inspection

Cut and prepare bevel. Make fit-up in accordance with the applicable WPS.

VT 100 %( Check cleaning and surface preparation, Bevel angel, root Gap and Root Face. Check
misalignment (Hi-Low) - Check orientation).Verify the material as per isometric drawing .

Magnetic check of the root pass (stainless steel material only)

Perform final Visual Inspection of completed welds. Final NDT inspection before and after PWHT (if
PWHT is applicable)-

RT based on inspection class (1A & 2A – 100% RT, 1B -20%RT, 3C- 10%, 3D& 4D- 5%RT)
