The compartment is designed to be convertible to a variety of configurations including all coach, all first class, or mixed class configurations. Passenger and crew accommodations for aircraft 01-03 include seats, stowage racks, a double coatroom, a stowage compartment, galleys, and lavatories. A single, aft-facing cabin attendant's seat is installed against the elec- trical power center bulkhead in the forward end of the compartment. A double, forward-facing cabin attendant's seat is installed against the aft pressure bulkhead (see Figure 1). Passenger and crew accommodations for aircraft 07-15, 41-47 include seats, stowage racks, galleys, and lavatories. A double, aft-facing cabin atten- dant's seat is installed against the electrical power center bulkhead in the: forward end of the compartment. A double, forward-facing cabin atten dent's seat is installed on the aft passenger entrance door. All aircraft are configured as shown in Figure 2, however, aircraft 41-47 have passenger/ cargo rapid change capability and have passenger seats and galleys mounted on pallets. For a description of the passenger/cargo rapid change system refer to 25-57-0. The passenger utilities are installed in the lower surface of the overhead stowage racks and are adjustable fore-and-aft to provide for variations in seat spacing. For soundproofing and insulating purposes, the passenger compartment is lined with fiberglas blankets. A knurled knob located on top inside of aisle edge of overhead stowage rack will assist in locating the overwing emergency exit doors if the cabin is dark. Each door is approximately 22 inches wide and 38 inches high. The doors are secured at the bottom by rigid lockpins that fit into the lower section of the doorjamb, and at the top by a mechanical latch that locks into the upper section of the doorjamb. Doors can be unlatched either from inside or from outside the airplane. A pull of approximately 20 pounds on either handle will release the latch. The door is then removed by pulling in at the top and lifting up to release the lockpins at the bottom of the door. Removed doors can be jettisoned overboard through the exit openings. The door handles are made of laminated fiberglass to prevent heat transfer and to retard frosting (see Figure 1). The tail cone is attached to the aft end of the fuselage and is jettisonable. When jettisoned, the opening rrovides an emer— gency exit accessible from the passenger compartment through the aft accessory compartment. The tailcone can be released either from inside or from outside the airplane. 25-63-0 CODE 2 15/67 Page 1 DOUGLAS AIRCRAFT DIVISION oc -g MAINTENANCE MANUAL INNER HANDLE | REMOVING DOOR FROM INSIDE AIRPLANE LOCKPINS, 52-688 25-63-0 overwing Emergency Exits CODE 2 Figure 1 Page 2 dul 15766 © view D >) view F view E STAM OPERATING HARDLE SIDE gun 1/68 DOUGLAS AIRCRAFT DIVISION oc-g MAINTENANCE MANUAL INTERIOR TAIL CONE JETTISON HANDLE’ & EMERGENCY EXIT PULL HANDLE TO et ty eet ee FOLD SEAT INTO RECESS BEFORE OPENING DOOR 862-15788, Aft Emergency Exits 25-63-0 Figure 2 CODE 2 Page 3
