Aim

To explore a strategy through Regenerative

Architecture for Eco-resort design in order to address
the challenges of degenerating natural environment
associated with resorts in Northern Nigeria.
What is Regenerative Architecture?

 Regenerative Architecture (RA) is the practice of engaging the natural

world as the medium for, and generator of the architecture (Littman,
2009)

Conservation and Reduced Architecture= Environment+ building

Beyond Sustainable Architecture

Sustaining social, economic and environmental sphere.

Conclusion

This presentation has;

 Identified challenges of degrading natural environment associated
with resorts in Northern Nigeria.
 Examined principles of Regenerative Architecture as applied in
three resorts in Northern Nigeria.
 Indicated that a strategy for eco-resort design in Northern Nigeria
needs to consider two aspects of principles of Regenerative
Architecture;
 Focusing on regenerative principles
 or targeting degenerating principles
Significance of Study
 Environment:
 Regenerating natural environments.
 Economics:
 Providing natural day lighting and ventilation.
 Adapting use of spaces rather than abandon spaces.
 Waste management enhances use of natural and recyclable
materials.
 Eco-resort become sources of investments for the tourism industry.
 Social
 Eco-resort improves relationship between tourist, indigenous people
and site as this patronizes the ‘place’ as it is the essence of the
visitation.
• Future work
1. 1. Developing a design frame work on RA
for eco-resorts in Nigeria
2. Validating the design framework
