An Overview
It is the University of Santo Tomas's commitment to
partake in the mission of the Church in proclaiming
the Truth of the Gospel as embodied in our motto,

Veritas in Caritate (Truth in Charity).


Under the Institute of Religion's supervision, all Thomasian
students shall take the Theology curriculum designed in an
outcomes-based educative manner. The curriculum offers four
Theology courses with the following codes and titles:

THY 3: Christian Vision of the Church in Society
THY 4: Living the Christian Vision in the Contemporary World
Theology Course Pedagogy
IR uses a signature pedagogy called Dominican-Thomistic
Education by Design, also known as DoT-ED Framework.
DoT-Ed follows a four-step approach:

Course Description
An outcomes-based undergraduate theology course that enables students to
understand the Christian view of the human person and to live out the
fundamentals of the moral doctrine of the Church.

The course focuses on Christ’s call to holiness and the human person’s
response in faith. It covers the following major themes on the human person:
I. Called to Salvation in Christ; II. Called to Happiness in Christ; III. Called to
Fullness in Christ; and IV. Called to Holiness in Christ.

The students are expected to reflect more deeply and act more fully on the
moral teachings of Christ so that they can lead lives worthy of the Gospel.
Course Outcomes
The course hopes that each student will be able to:
CILO 1: Critique moral trends that prefer individual goals and desires over
attitudes that promote shared responsibilities.
CILO 2: Evaluate current moral issues in light of the Sacred Scripture and
teachings of the Church.
CILO 3: Inculturate the fundamental moral teachings of the Church into
one’s chosen profession.
CILO 4: Integrate the moral precepts of the Church in making responsible
actions towards pursuing holiness.
CILO 5: Exhibit a certain and correct conscience in response to the
invitation of Christ to discipleship.
CILO 6: Live out the Gospel values that teach maturity in self-giving and
stewardship.

Learning Assessments
Formative Assessments (FAs) and Summative Assessments
(SAs) shall be administered to assess your learning.

FAs such as drills, activities, and short quizzes are non-gradable.

SAs are gradable. These include:


a) summative test
b) course inquiry project; and
c) major exam.

The required components for every grading period
are as follows:

The passing rate for each component is 60% of the


highest possible score.

We shall follow the 5-point numerical grade stipulated in PPS
no. 1019 of the Student Handbook as shown in the table:
Class Attendance
1. Three counts of tardiness shall be counted as one absence.
2. Every student is required to attend at least 80% of the class hours/days for
every subject in order to earn the corresponding credits. The allowable number of
absences is limited to 20% of the total required hours.
3. In consideration of financial difficulties that may have led to late enrollment or
procedural challenges encountered in the process, classes missed due to late
enrollment or late validation of payment shall not be counted among the absences.
However, students shall still be made to comply with missed requirements.
4. A student who incurs absences in excess of 20% of the required class hours shall
receive a grade of “FA” and shall not be allowed to take the final examinations for
the course.
5. For reasons deemed valid and acceptable, a student who exceeds the 20% limit
for absences may present his/her case to the Office of the Dean for possible re-
consideration.

Other Policies and Guidelines
1. Official Enrollment to the Course
Students are officially enrolled once listed on the system-generated Official Class
List provided by the Office of the Registrar.

2. Attendance
Class attendance should be both regular and punctual. The University requires that
every student attend no less than 80% of the class hours/days required for every
course to earn the corresponding credits. Allowable absences: 1-hour classes (11);
1.5-hour classes (7); 3-hour classes (3).
Student attendance in synchronous classes may be monitored through the data
analytics generated by the video conferencing platform used by the course
facilitator. For asynchronous classes, academic staff may utilize the User Activity
Reports generated in Canvas.

3. Grading Period
Theology courses shall have two grading periods: Preliminary and Final.

4. Submission of Course Requirements


Course Requirements must be submitted on time at the Canvas Course Site.
Other platforms for submissions and acceptance of late submissions is subject
to the discretion of the professor. Non-submission will incur a grade of zero for
that requirement.

5. Assessment and Grading


Summative Tests and Major Examinations shall be done individually.
Course Inquiry Projects shall be done either individually or by group and
be graded using a rubric.

6. Major Examinations
Major Examinations shall be taken onsite by the students and be
administered by the professor as scheduled by faculties/colleges.

7. Consultation Period
Students may request for onsite or online synchronous consultation periods
with the course facilitator during the consultation hours allotted for the class
via UST Zoom. For asynchronous consultations, other means of
communication may be used such as UST email, Google Chat using UST account,
or Course Message of the Canvas Course Site.

8. Course Announcements and Updates


Announcements and updates about the course are made through the
Announcement feature of the Canvas Course Site.

9. Dress and Grooming


Proper dress code must be observed. Students are required to wear decent and
appropriate clothing during onsite and synchronous online classes.

10. Academic Honesty


Thomasians shall always abide by the Thomasian Code of Honor. Cases of
plagiarism, cheating, etc. shall be dealt with in accordance with the provisions
indicated in the Student Handbook and College/Faculty policies.

Avoiding the temptation to tune-out

1. Do stretches and take health breaks as needed.


2. Munch, if necessary, especially for long classes.
3. Allot the best time of your day to doing tasks.
4. Be committed to your formation.

1. Find a clean, orderly, and quiet spot with good Internet.


2. Avoid gaming and social media.
3. Set up comfortable lighting and seating.
4. Eliminate or minimize distractions.
