EVOLUTION OF THE K-POP GENUS
I. DESCRIPTION

The k-pop is a musical genre, which includes several styles of music like electronic, hip
hop, rap, rock or R&B. The main songs of the artists are conventionally accompanied by a
choreography. K-pop also has a significant influence on fashion in Asia, therefore it is
followed by young people.

Its history dates back between 1910 and 1945, where Koreans used a type of music in
order to express their feelings about the Japanese occupation of Korea. The first pop
song is "Nakhwayusu" (Flowers fallen in the water). After the Korean War (1950-1953),
US troops remained in South Korea for their protection, for example: Marilyn Monroe
sang in bars for soldiers; influencing the country's music. When the Beatlemania arrived on
the coast of Korea, the first rock bands appeared, one of them was "ADD4". In the late
1960s, Korean pop underwent another transformation, which was strongly influenced by
the hippie movement, producing lively music. One of the main figures of the time was Han
Dae Soo, with the song "Mul jom juso" (Give Me Water). In the 80s, ballad singers
increased after Lee Gwang Ho to Far Away to Get Close's album in 1985, not only he but
also Lee Moon Se and Byun Jin Seob. In the 1990s, later, the group "Seo Taiji and Boys"
appeared, which incorporated western genres such as: hip hop, rock and techno. In the
early 2000s, groups that had experienced intense success were now in decline ¡What a
pity! However, the successes of the solo groups BoA and TVXQ, SS501, respectively,
marked the growth of K-pop. The birth of the second generation of K-pop was followed by
the debut of Super Junior (2005), Big Bang (2006), Wonder Girls (2007), Girls' Generation
(2007) and KARA (2007). Since the mid-2000s, a large part of the East Asian music
market has been dominated by K-pop; such as China, Japan, and the United States.
Finally, the genre has grown rapidly thanks to the song "Gangnam Style" by PSY, which
was the first YouTube video to reach one billion views. Actually 2020, k-pop is a trend, it
has managed to spread to Europe, Latin America, Oceania, etc. BTS meanwhile debuted
in 2013 and is now in its golden age. Their songs full of rhythm, their urban style and their
striking video clips have led them to be the maximum representatives of K-Pop and to be
some idols of the masses. Blackpink, the female band made up of 4 artists that is also a
phenomenon. Also, they do not stop also breaking all kinds of records, being a
phenomenon in social networks, songs like Ddu-Du Ddu-Du have been heard around the
world and offer plenty of rhythm for anyone to enjoy and a very powerful aesthetic. Twice,
the band that have managed to be the best-selling girl group in the history of the Asian
country. They stand out for being a multicultural band made up of two Japanese, five
Korean, one Taiwanese and one American, who give their songs a lot of personality.

II. CONCLUSIONS
1. In conclusion "Seo Taiji and Boys" was the one who officially finished creating k-
pop.
2. By way of clausure we can say that BoA is one of the main causes of the so-called
Korean wave.
3. K-pop is a fusion of synthesized music, dance routines and colorful fashion clothes.

III. SUGGESTIONS
1. I suggest going to "Idol Look", "Coex Artium's SMTOWN", "With Drama by Lotte El
Cube on Garosu-gi Street", which are stores dedicated to selling K-pop themed
products.
2. I recommend listening to G-IDLE–OH MY GOD; BTS–ON; MAMAMOO–HIP;
EVERGLOW–DUN DUN. I feel that these songs are the best, considering the
choreography; lyrics; video aesthetics; musical background; attitude; makeup;
singing; the rap and the emotion that it transmits to the listeners.
3. I advise not to be toxic, if you do not like a certain musical genre do not insult it, be
respectful of the tastes of others.
