One of the largest noise. {gomtraiors isthe engine's wiring harness that runs from the encine to the instrument panel, This harness usually contains a wire for the tachometer which radiates AF (radio frequency) energy. For best results, Keep the power and iransducer cables away trom the engine wiring. Also, bige pump wing can sometimes radiate noise so ry to keep the X-35MS cables away from those wires \VHE ratio antenna cables typically radiate RF energy at higher power levels than the engine's wiring harness. tis important to keep the X- ‘364M's poner and transducer cables as faraway as poseble from VHF ‘ado cables Itinterterence begins at slow boat speeds, worsening as the boat speed increases, then a probable cause fs acoustic noise, or caviation. TS noise isnot electrical, but rather mechanically induced noise trom the ‘ransducer. Stop the boat, put the engina in neutral, and increase the Rpm. I the noise does nat increase on the display, then itis cavitation, Usually, air bubbles passing over the face of the transducer create acoustic noise. The faster a boa raves, the more airbubbles increase and generate noise on the display. To eliminate this problom, read the ‘transducer installation section for proper mounting techniques. ‘TRANSDUCER “Transducer instalation instructions ere packaged separately with the transducer. Please read the instructions careuly betore you install the ‘ransducer, Periodialy wash the transducers face with soap and water to remove ‘any oil fi that may collect. il and dit on the face will reduce the ‘sensitivity or may even prevent operation. Paint transducers on salt water boats with a thin coat of anioulant Paint to prevent organisms from growing. Large fish wil arch, but tun the senstvty up in deoper watorto soe the arch, Bocause of water conetione, euch ae haavy surface clutter, thermociines, etc, the senstivly sometimes cannot be inceased ‘enough to get fish arches. ‘One of the best ways to get sh arches is 10 expand or “zoom” a segment ofthe water. For example, ftom 3 to 6 meters. ‘The smaller the segment, the beter the screen resolution will be. For the bost results, turn the senstviy up as high as possibile without geting 100 ‘much noise on the sorean, In madum lo daep water, this method should work to display fish arches. WATER TEMPERATURE AND THERMOCLINES Water temperature has an important not controling influence ypon the activities of all fish. Fish are cold blooded and their bodies are always the temperature ofthe surrounding water. During the winter, colder water slows down their metabolism. At ths time, they need about a fourth as much food as they consume inthe summer. Most fish dort spawn unless the water temperature is within rathor harrow limits. A sutface temperature meter such as Lowrance's LDT- 3000 helps identy the desired surface water spawning temperatures for various species. Trout can't survive in streame that get too warm. Bass and otherfsh eventually de out when stocked in akes thal comin {00 cad during the summer. While some fish have a wider temperature tolerance than others, each has a certain range within which Bes to slay. Schooling fish suspended over deep water atthe level that provides this temperature. We assume they are the most comfortable here ‘The temperature of water inthe lake is seklom constant from top to bottom. Layers of diferent temperatures form, and the junction of a warm and ooo! layer of water is called a thermocline. Tho dopth and thickness of the thermoctine can vary wih the season or time of day. In {deep lakes thore may bo two or more at diferent depths. Thormectines are important to fishermen because they are areas whore fish are ‘active. Many tings ball fish wil bo above the thermocine whl larger ‘game lish wil suspand in o just below i 9 FISH ARCHES Fish arches are created when the cane of sound passes over a fish. Tha dielanea fo a lish whan th cone fret stkes tis shown a "Ai the Husration below. Whon the canter ofthe cone strikes the ish, the distance i shorter, as shown in"B*.
