CHAPTER TOPIC/AREA OBJECTIVE REMARKS

Chapter 1- Save The Planet

1.1 All about planet earth.
1.2 The Giving Earth.
1.3 Looking after our Planet.

1.1 All about our planet earth. • The solar system -universe, galaxy
• Moon (tides)
• Night and day
• Seasons
• The earth's surface.
• Living things on earth biomes flora & fauna / biotic/abiotic

1.2 The Giving Earth. Earth our home • Identify the things provided by earth.
• place to live. air
ecosystem services
• food to eat.
• water
• gratitude towards earth.

Chapter 2- Our Environment
2.1 Understanding the environment.
2.2 Elements in environment.
2.3 Exploring the environment.
2.4 Biodiversity

2.1 Understanding the environment. • What is the environment?

An Environment is everything that is around us,

which includes both living and non-living things
such as soil, water, animals and plants, which
adapt themselves to their surroundings. It is
nature’s gift that helps in nourishing life on Earth.

2.2 Elements in environment • air,

• soil,
• water,
• plants,
• animals
• Ask students how each of the following elements
of the natural environment help
us live and how they affect other things in the
environment.
• Sun (The sun gives us warmth and light. Without
sunlight, plants could not grow, and
we'd have no food.)
• Air (Living plants and animals, including people,
must have plenty of fresh, clean air to
breathe and grow.)
• Water (Plants, animals, and people need fresh,
clean water to live.)
• Land (We build our homes and grow our food on
land. We live on the land, and we
take many natural resources from the land.)
• Plants and Animals (Plants and animals give us
the food we need to live. We also
use them for many other things, such as clothing,
paper, fabric.)
2.3 Exploring the environment • students will have a key focus on a specific
environment within our local area.
• the environments that can be explored are river,
rock or bush.
• Students will gain an understanding of the
interconnectedness within our ecosystems,
---------------- the
different species that occupy these and their role
within these niches.

2.4 Biodiversity • Define biodiversity

• Understand the indicative signs that
biodiversity is at risk
food chain • Explore the interconnectivity of
ecosystems and biomes.

Chapter 3- Natural resources Natural Environment
3.1 What are natural resources?
3.2 Renewable & Non-renewable
3.3 Man-Made Resources

3.1 What are natural resources? • Define natural resources and identify the main
mineral, energy and groundwater
resources distributed around Earth.

• Use evidence to explain that humans depend on

many limited natural resources that
may not be renewed over human lifetimes.

3.2 Renewable & Non-renewable • Students will be able to differentiate between

renewable and non-renewable resources.

3.3 Man-Made Resources • Student will understand how human actions

modify the environment and how we depend on
natural environment the physical environment for food, clean air,
built environment. water, mineral resources and more.
• Students will understand that there are materials
that are made by nature and materials that are
made by people.
• Students will distinguish between the natural
resources and man-made resources as a first
step to understanding how materials cycle.

Chapter 4- Environmental Degradation & Pollution
4.1 What is pollution?
4.2 Types of pollution
4.3 Causes of pollution
4.4 Solutions for pollution

4.1 What is pollution? • Define the meaning of pollution.

4.2 Types of pollution • Identify different types of pollution and their

sources.
• air pollution
• water pollution
• noise pollution
light pollution
4.3 Causes & Effects of pollution • Identify causes of pollution (Human Activities)
Human activities • Understand how pollution affects others
Causes & effects of pollution & environmental degradation.

4.4 Solutions for pollution Prevention, reduce & Control• Identify the ways to reduce pollution
(Waste Management) • Reduce
• Reuse
• Recycle
4.5 waste management
**degradation- degrading the natural resources
** degrading land, ecosystems

Chapter 5- Climate Change
5.1 What is Climate Change?
5.2 Causes of Climate Change
5.3 Solutions for climate change

5.1 What is Climate Change? • Define the meaning of Climate change.

• How the Earth’s climate is changing as many
things that are important in our lives could be
changed forever by climate change.

5.2 Causes of Climate Change • How humans causing climate change?

• Identify activities which create climate change.

5.3 Solutions for climate change • Discuss any measures that the children are
taking at home and at school to
combat climate change e.g.:
• saving energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels,
• recycling to reduce waste,
• growing their own food.

Chapter 6- Biomimicry
6.1 What is biomimicry?
6.2 Humans and nature
6.3 Biomimicry Creations

6.1 What is biomimicry? • This lesson introduces students to the concept of

biomimicry. In the first session, students
participate in a presentation that invites them to
question where ideas come from and how our
built world was imagined and
constructed.
• Students discuss why designers are studying
nature’s solutions and identify some of nature’s
design achievements (such as energy efficiency,
recycling, zero-waste systems, solar energy,
etc.).
6.2 Humans and nature • To identify how products have been influenced by
nature
• To explain how a given product has taken its
Nature inspired product. influence from nature
• To present information clearly in a suitable format
6.3 Biomimicry Creations • Students will design a solution to a problem using
ideas from nature.
