SB 120-24-0051, as the emergency DC buses are normally supplied by the Relay Box DC bus 1, after the occurrence of the short circuit, the emergency DC buses will be deenergized. In this case, in order to supply the emergency DC buses, the electrical system must be changed to emergency mode of operation by positioning the Electrical Emergency switch to EMERG. In the emergency mode, the electrical distribution system will be rearranged as follows: — The main generator 2 supplies the relay box DC bus 2, DC bus 2, Relay Box DC bus 3and DC bus 3. — The auxiliary generator supply the Auxiliary DC bus and all emergency DC buses, and keep the battery being charged. — All the other buses are deenergized ‘The airplane remains limited to 25000 ft because the left engine bleed is closed. The flight may be continued at the pilot's discretion, taking into account that the engine/APU airstart and electrical crossfeed are not possible, and the equipment connected to the lost buses are also out. Therefore, it is recommended landing as soon as practical. CASE 3 - SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE RELAY BOX DC BUS 2 ‘The Relay Box DC bus 2 and the Central DC bus will be isolated from the electrical network by means of both GCUs, that will open the Main Generator contactor 2, the Battery contactor, and the Bus Tie contactors 1 and 2. ‘The GEN 2 OFF BUS, BUS 2 OFF, CENTRAL BUS OFF and BATT OFF BUS lights will illuminate to indicate that the main generator 2 is isolated from the system, the Relay Box DC bus 2, DC bus 2 and the Central DC bus are not being supplied and the battery is disconnected from the central bus. SCHEMATIC AND ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION, SYSTEMS DESCRIPTION << eMBRseR SYSTEMS DESCRIPTION }———— EMBI2O Brasilia ELECTRICAL POWER OPERATIONS MANUAL CASE 4— SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE CENTRAL BUS, RELAY BOX DC BUS 1 OR RELAY BOX DC BUS 2 ON GROUND The occurrence of a short circuit with the airplane on the ground results in the same GCUs logic of operation as in flight, except that, on the ground, with Np below 70%, the Auxiliary DC bus is normally deenergized. In this case, after an overcurrent condition, the Relay Box DC 3 and DC bus 3 will not be trans- ferred to the Relay Box DC 2 and will be deenergized. This will happen due to an internal logic of the electric system that will lock the Bus 3 contactor in the closed position, whenever the Bus Tie contactor 2 is tripped by the GCUs. NOTE: On airplanes Pre-Mod. SB 120-24-0051, even after an overcurrent condition, the Relay Box DC bus 3 and DC bus 3 will be normally transferred to the Relay Box DC bus 2. EMERGENCY DC BUSES DISCONNECTION In the event of cockpit/cabin fire or smoke, when the source of fire or smoke is suspect to come from the emergency DC buses, the emergency DC buses should be disconnected. The procedure to deenergize the emergency DC buses is turning off the main generator 1 and the Bus Tie Contactor 1. This procedure is applicable to airplanes Pre-Mod. and Post-Mod. ‘SB 120-24-0051 In this case the electrical distribution system will be changed as follows: — The main generator 2 supplies the Relay Box DC bus 2, DC bus 2, Radio Master DC buses 2A to 2C and keeps charging the battery. — The auxiliary generators 1 and 2 supply the Auxiliary DC bus, Relay Box DC bus 3 and DC bus 3. — The emergency DC buses, Relay Box DC bus 1, DC bus 1, Radio Master DC buses 1A to 1C are deenergized. — The EMERG BUS OFF, GEN 1 OFF BUS, BUS 1 OFF lights illuminate. NOTE: It is assumed that the electric system was in normal flight configuration before the occurrence of the fire/smoke. 08 DECEMBER 1997 69.27 SYSTEMS DESCRIPTION €emenaca ELECTRICAL POWER EvBI2O Bronina OPERATIONS MANUAL BACK-UP BATTERY There are some electronic instruments on the airplane which may provided unreliable data if the electrical supply is interrupted, even if for very short intervals, andior low power buses transients and low voltages occur. During engine start, the bus voltage may drop to 12 V DC for a few seconds and transient voltages may be observed at the end of engine starting or when heavy electiical loads are switched on. Some milliseconds of power interruption may be observed during power supply transfer, such as extemal power to battery transfer or extemal power to generator transfer, etc. To eliminate the detrimental effect of these transients, a back-up battery is available as a momentary back-up power source for several loads when operating in the normal mode, andalso tosupply electrical power to the standby horizon, when operating in the emergency mode, NORMAL OPERATION The back-up battery will operate in the normal mode whenever the BACK-UP BATT switch is in the ARM position and the electrical DC system is operating in normal mode. Back-up power will be supplied through the four buses, each providing DC power to the loads showed in the schematic diagram, when the voltage of the normal buses is lower than the voltage of the back-up buses: — BACK-UP DC BUS 1 — BACK-UP DC BUS 2 — BACK-UP EMERG DC BUS 1 — BACK-UP EMERG DC BUS 2 ‘The back-up buses circuit breakers are all rated one step higher than their corresponding circuit breakers in the main DC buses, so that the circuit breakers on the overhead panel will always open earlier than the back-up power circuit breaker, thereby allowing any fault to be promptly detected by the pilot. ‘The use of 104 fuses between the back-up bus bars and the back-up battery preventsa short-circuit in one of the back-up buses from causing the other three buses to be lost. If the electrical DC system changes to the emergency mode, the Back-Up Battery relay will open, disconnecting the back-up battery from the Emergency DC bus 2, and deenergizing the back-up buses. In this case, the back-up battery will be dedicated to the standby horizon only. va avoust se | esx 16-091-001 ‘SYSTEMS DESCRIPTION ELECTRICAL POWER, € emsracr emBi2O Brasilia OPERATIONS MANUAL (3GOW TWWHON NI ONILVH3dO WALSAS 9G WOILDIT3 GNV NOLLISOd WHY NI HOLIMS Live df-0Wd HIM NOLLWENDHNOD TWWHON LHOMS-NI) ‘OILWW3HOS WALSAS AUSLLVE dl-xOVE Hon ewtoN L497 ONY atin ‘WSHLVaS XW AHO 40 20H ~ HON NOMLNO! ~ (oars a “dINnd UaHva wsouona4 Viva LHD — nw 1337 30 890 — ‘wv oNn000 ONNOWD LHOW ONY UaLV3H YHSONIM HORS 1HOIT ONT ‘ON AHOW ZV 9UIDRU WAL YH UBTT3d0Ud HDI “dnd OW "WOAH HOW 40 S.8904 — Nv ‘NNO aNNOWO 1437 GNY HB VLU NY OO BL waH WaTI2dOud 1431 ‘snd av "WOAH L491 40 S008 ‘SUOLWOION£ ON 9L aN Hy ~ 2933 — |AHOM NOLIN! ~ ‘SHOLVOIGNI Z ONS 91 ONY HN ~ 1 suHy ~ onourona0. ~ vom = Zsuny - ne Tony ~ C._zsnescouna > C 7 sna 90 9u3N3 » C zsna00 ) Cc 1sn@ 90, >) T 2 T I L (Cana a BHATT) CGaaxiaraamae_) (Cama mae) (Craze as0%e) ] ‘SuBIWaUA LINDWO G3LVE UaHOIH YO ‘save 62 30yia3e OL 0380 Uv $3190 3S9HL BAYS sunoui9 14gx909 341 Wola STeVL1 3534 $1 ONY AVIS \¥SVGSNSI(u¥¥3U8 LINDE TOSINOD LONNIE!
