JNU ENTRANCE EXAM: AN INTRODUCTION


Jawaharlal Nehru University is one of the primer institutions in the country. With a Central
University tag, the varsity provides both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The
university offers around 10 undergraduate programmes while a total of 37 post graduate pro-
grammes. There are a total of 9 undergraduate schools and 12 post graduate schools.

The university starts the admission procedure for the academic year almost six months prior to
the usual admissions conducted in other universities. JNU admissions registration procedure
starts in the month of September with the application forms and ends with the counselling
procedure which is conducted in the last week of July and first week of August. JNU conducts
the entrance exam every year in the offline format for both undergraduate and postgraduate
programmes.

JNU APPLICATION FORM


Jawaharlal Nehru University will release the application form as the first step of the admis-
sion process for the academic year. Candidates who wish to seek admission to the different
undergraduate and post graduate programmes must fill and submit the application form
which is available online. The application form will include the candidates’ personal infor-
mation, academic information and bank account details which has to be filled and submitted.
Candidates will also get a chance to make corrections in their application forms but they
are advised to have a look at the application form before moving on to the fee payment pro-
cedure. The application fee has to be paid for the amount of subjects the candidates wishes
to appear for in the entrance exam. The application form can be submitted both online and
offline.

Application process
Given below is the detailed application process. Candidates can follow the steps given below
while filling the application form.

Step 1: Online Registration


●● Click on the Application Form link
●● Click on the ‘Apply now’ tab on the Admission page.
●● Read the instructions given after which you need to click on the ‘I Agree, Apply Online’ tab towards
the end.

●● Enter the name, Date of Birth, Address, Mobile Number, Email Id and Study Programmes you wish
to apply for.
●● Create a password following the instructions given for the same. (Make sure to keep the password
in mind for further references)
●● Enter the Captcha mentioned and click on the ‘Register Now’ tab.

Step 2: Personal and Academic Details


After online registration of JNUEE is completed, login using the JNU ID/ Registration
Number and Password you just created.
Fill in the required details mentioned on the page such as basic information, academic quali-
fication (school/undergraduate academic details), contact details.
Select the programme of your choice (You can select upto three programmes)
Select the test centre of your convenience from the 54 centres options given.

Step 3: Upload Documents


After filling in the academic and programme details you now have to upload the necessary
documents.
Make sure to upload all the documents in the appropriate size specified for each of the docu-
ments.

Step 3 – Fee Payment


After uploading the necessary details candidates will now have to pay the application fee
Before moving on to the application fee payment candidates are advised to have a thorough
look at the form and make sure that all the spellings and preferences given, documents
uploaded etc are correct so that there will be no further problem.

●● Candidates can remit application fee in online as well as offline modes.
●● The application fees can be paid online using Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Net Banking.
●● The application fees can be paid offline mode through SBI Bank Challan.
●● Candidates need to note that no changes will be allowed in application form after application fee
for JNUEE has been paid.

Step 4 - JNU Application Form submission and status


●● Candidates will get a confirmation about successful submission of application form after a confir-
mation page is displayed with an Unique Application Number (UAN) of JNUEE.

●● Candidates should to keep the UAN in hand for future references as candidates will be provided a
registration number at the time of issue of admit card 2019.
●● Candidates are also advised to get printout of application form for further references.

JNU ELIGIBILITY
The eligibility criteria mentions the specific eligibility criteria to apply for each of the dif-
ferent subjects offered by the university. All the programmes offered by the university have
mentioned the minimum marks required by candidates in their qualifying examination.
Given below are the eligibility for the different courses.

lent examination with minimum of 45 percent marks.

state or central recognised Institute/ University.
Candidates must have obtained at least 55 percent marks in aggregate of all
subjects.

M.Sc in Environmental Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any branch of Basic or Applied

M.A. in Arts and Aes- Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 aca-

JNU EXAM PATTERN


JNU Exam pattern mentions the pattern for each entrance examination. The candidates
have to answer a total of 100 questions in a duration of three hours. However, the exam pat-
tern will differ as per the subjects. While certain subjects will contain both subjective and
objective questions others will contain only objective questions. Check here the detailed
exam pattern of the different subjects

Exam Pattern B.A Programme


●● Candidates who will attempt the examination for the B.A Programme must be prepared to answer
a total of 100 objective type questions.
●● The Question paper is divided into two sections which are further divided into parts.
●● Candidates will have to answer the first section which will contain objective type questions from
Reasoning, English grammar, Comprehension, Language for 50 marks.
●● Section two will contain descriptive type questions for 50 marks
●● Total duration of the exam will be three hours

Exam Pattern M.A Programme


●● The entrance exam for M.A Programme will be based on micro-economics, macroeconomics, math-
ematics and statistics, International trade, public economics and economic development.
●● Candidates will have to answer 100 objective type questions.
●● Negative marking will be applicable.

Exam Pattern M.A in Language, Literature and Culture


Studies
●● M.A Language, Literature and Culture Studies exam pattern for JNU 2019 will be 100 objective
type questions on topics from Language, and topics on grammar, translations, short essays and
about society, culture and literature of language origin country.

Exam Pattern M.Sc Programme


●● The exam pattern for M.Sc .Programme is divided into two parts. The first part will contain ques-
tions from Science and Maths (based on Class 12)
●● The second part will carry questions purely based on science such as Physics, Geology, Botany,
Zoology, Chemistry and Mathematics at B.Sc level.
●● Candidates will have to answer 100 objective type questions.

Exam pattern M.Sc Physics and Chemistry


●● Candidates must prepare themselves for questions from Physical Chemistry and Mathematics at
B.Sc. (General) level for M.Sc Physics
●● M.Sc Chemistry, the questions will be based on Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. M.Sc
in Physics and Chemistry will contain objective type questions only.

Exam Pattern M.A in Arts and Aesthetics


●● M.A in Arts and Aesthetics question paper will be divided into two sections containing Short and
Long answer questions.
●● Candidates must prepare themselves to answer both the types of questions in the stipulated time.

Exam Pattern M.A Sanskrit


●● The mode of exam will be either English or Sanskrit.
●● Candidates have to answer short answer type questions for a total of 100 marks.
●● No negative marking is applicable.

Exam Pattern M.Sc Molecular Science


●● The question paper for M.Sc Molecular Science is divided into two sections.
●● The first section will contain objective type questions from topics such as molecular medicine.
●● The second section will be based on topics such a botany, zoology, physics, chemistry and relevant
subjects.

JNU CUTOFF

Factors that determine JNU cutoff


The cutoff is determined by the university keeping in mind a few factors some of which are

The counselling procedure of JNU will begin with the registration process which will start
after the merit list is declared. Candidates will have to register for the admissions process
after which a second merit list will be declared which will be considered as the final admis-

ments that need to be submitted during the counselling process.

JNU Counselling Process


●● The counselling process of JNU begins with the publication of JNU merit list.
●● After the university releases the merit list the candidates who have qualified the merit list will have
to download the pre-enrollment admission form which will be available online.
●● The registration for the admissions will begin in the third or fourth week of July. The registration
dates will be different for different courses.
●● After the registration process is completed the university will release the second merit list contain-
ing the list of candidates who completed the registration process. This will be the final admission
list for JNU.

Candidates must make a note of the documents to be taking along with them for the docu-
ment verification process. The document verification is conducted as part of the JNU admis-

Following documents will be submitted by the candidate (in original) at the Admission
Counter in a separate envelope while taking admission/registration:

●● Character Certificate (from last attended institution)
●● Anti-ragging Affidavits
