Akbar: The Consolidation of the Mughal Empire

1. What other benefits Akbar enjoy after conquering the state of Gujarat?

He gained many benefits from the conquer of Gujarat and The port town of Surat, for example:

I. The land was rich in cotton and indigo which the Mughals traded with others
II. It gave Mughals access to the Sea and sea travel which allowed trading with the Persian
Gulf, Arabia and Egypt.

2. How Todar Mal revenue settlement policy would help Akbar in handling financial matters?

Todar Mal’s revenue system meant that the land taxes were fixed and after a survey of the land
and the tax was 1/3 of amount of land. The tax was directly collected from the person by the
Amalguzars, the revenue collectors. It made the peasants very happy as the system gave them
more security which was very beneficial for Akbar because it was important for the Emperor that
the people are satisfied. The wealth accumulated through this new system also allowed Akbar to
contribute to architecture and construction of grand buildings.

3. Why developing Royal mint is considered as an achievement in times of Akbar?

The Royal Mint was reorganised in the period 1577-1578 and were in charge of an Artist Abdus
Samad. The coinage was well managed and the produced coins were of high quality.
Developing one’s own Royal mint was a grand achievement for an Emperor and developing his
own royal mint, which was very successful and well managed earned Akbar a famous and great
reputation.
