ABSTRACT

In 2005 technical report of American Academy of Paediatric and the North American Paediatric
Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Society (NASPGHAN) found limited data for most
therapeutic interventions for functional GI disorders but did not include studies on herbs and spices.
Since there has been an increasing interest in the use of complementary medicine for the treatment,
as the treatment was mainly based on drug therapies and parents often fear side effects of this type
of therapy. On November 2018, a review of clinical trials for the treatment of this group of disorders
was published which included complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for chronic pain
disorders in children that are perceived as "safe and natural". Further article included six alternative
therapy evidence in adults and children for use. Reported evidence shows the use of herbal agents in
treatment of functional GI disorders such as stw-5, turmeric, ginger, aloe Vera, peppermint oil and
cannabis.
