Apparitions of Our Lady of Good Success of the Purification

and the Crisis in the Catholic Church in Our Times

“Quito Pt. 2: Prophecies and Masonry”

prepared and narrated by Paul Renneberg

In the first video presentation (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dm6DaK0PZLo) we examined

the early life and some of the mystical experiences of Mother Mariana. In this second video we will
examine the first and second Apparitions of Our Lady of Good Success to Mother Mariana and the
prophecies associated with these apparitions. We will continue to explore further apparitions and
prophecies of Our Lady in subsequent videos.

But first, a prayer:

Holy Mother of Good Success,
Star of the stormy sea of my mortal life,
May your light shine upon me
So that I do not stray from the path
That leads me to heaven.

As we look into the Apparitions of Our Lady of Good Success in Quito Ecuador, we witness the
fulfillment of many prophecies. The prophecies given to Mother Mariana by Our Lady of Good
Success nearly 400 years ago, relate directly to our times and have subsequently played out in the
course of history since they were given. We contemplate the correlation between these prophecies and
later prophecies from Our Lady, given at Fatima, LaSalette, Akita and elsewhere. We can recognize the
direct correlations with Sacred Scripture, notably with the Book of Revelation.

For example: Our Lady Of Good Success predicted to Mother Mariana a number of events already
been realized. These include:

• The life of Mother Mariana and the prophecies of Our Lady of Good Success would remain hidden
until our times, when devotion to Our Lady of Good Success would become known and practiced as a
remedy to the crisis in our times. The story of Mother Mariana has only become known in our times.
The statue of Our Lady of Good Success only received a Papal Coronation on 22nd February 1991.
Yet, devotion to Our Lady of Good Success has been approved by the Bishops of Quito since the 2nd
of February 1611.

• Our Lady predicted that the Colony of Quito would become a free Republic named Ecuador. This
occurred in 1809.
• Our Lady also predicted that a truly Catholic President would come to power in the free Republic and
consecrate Ecuador to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Our Lady predicted that he would be martyred in the
town square next to the convent. This person was President Gabriel Garcia Moreno and the prophecy
was completed in 1875 when he was assassinated in the city square of Quito next to the convent.

• The Dogma of the Immaculate Conception would be proclaimed. This was proclaimed by Pope Pius
IX in 1854.

• Our Lady also predicted the Dogma of the Assumption would be proclaimed. This dogma was
proclaimed by Pope Pius XII in 1950.

• Our Lady predicted the crisis in the Catholic Church in the 20th century. This has now become self-
evident and, as predicted, became more apparent after Vatican II in the early 1960’s and has
progressively deteriorated in the latter days of the 20th century.

• Our Lady foreshadowed the moral crisis in the Catholic Church in the dying days of the 20th century.
Immoral conduct by priests, bishops, cardinals and religious is now a matter of public record and a
source of scandal in the Church.

• Our Lady predicted that Freemasonry (1) would be used by satan to subvert the Catholic Church from
the end of the 19th century into, and in particular, the latter half of the 20th century. The Masonic
Lodges have had a history of anti-Catholic sentiment since the 19th Century.

• Our Lady and Our Lord told Mother Mariana that her beloved Convent of the Immaculate Conception
in Quito will remain until the end of time. It is still an active cloister today.

• Our Lady also told Mother Mariana about the Curé of Ars calling him by name as John Baptist Marie
Vianney.

Finally, Our Lady promised Mother Mariana:

At the “very moment when evil will seem triumphant and when the ecclesiastical authority will
abuse its power: this would mark, as Our Lady said, “the arrival of my hour, when, in a marvelous
way, I will dethrone the proud and accursed satan, trampling him under my feet and fettering him in
the infernal abyss.” (2)

Our Lady repeated this promise to the children at Fatima in 1917.

The First Apparition of Our Lady of Good Success (page 104 Vol 1)

In 1593, Mother Mariana was elected Abbess of the Conceptionist Convent in Quito. However, there
was again an internal revolt by some of the rebellious Sisters against the strict rule of the Conceptionist
Order and Mother Mariana personally. The rebellious Sisters conspired with a local priest from the
Bishop’s office to remove the Friars Minor, that is, the Franciscans, from the spiritual government of
the Convent. Removing the Friars Minor was designed to weaken the practice of The Holy Rule in the
Convent; a tactic used by satan to weaken devotion.

In the face of this rebellion Mother Mariana was once again praying prostrate before the Tabernacle on
the Feast of the Purification, that is, February 2nd in the year 1594. Mother Mariana heard a voice call
her name. She arose to see a beautiful woman with the Child Jesus supported by her left arm and in her
right hand was a gold crosier adorned with jewels unlike anything from this world. The beautiful
Woman identified herself saying:

“I am Mary of Good Success the Queen of Heaven and Earth.”(3)

Our Lady told mother Mariana that her sufferings and penances were pleasing to God and that she
would have much more to suffer. Our Lady further told Mother Mariana:

“The Holy Ghost Who consoles your spirit and sustains you in your just tribulations, formed from
three drops of the blood of my Heart the most beautiful Child of mankind. For nine months I,
Virgin and Mother, carried Him in my most pure womb. In the stable in Bethlehem, I gave birth to
Him, and lay Him to rest on the cold straw.

As His Mother, I carry Him here, in my left arm, so that together we might restrain the hand of
Divine Justice, which is always so ready to chastise this unfortunate and criminal world.

In my right hand I carry the crosier that you see, for I desire to govern this convent as Abbess and
Mother. Soon the Franciscan friars will no longer govern this Convent, which is why my patronage
and protection are more necessary than ever, for this difficult trial will last for centuries. With this
separation, satan will try to destroy this work of God, making use of my ungrateful daughters (i.e.
the rebellious Sisters). But he will not succeed, because I am the Queen of Victories and the
Mother of Good Success, and it is under this invocation I desire to be known throughout time for
the preservation of my convent and its inhabitants.”(4)

Our Lady went on to assure Mother Mariana that:

“In all times until the end of the world, I will have holy daughters, heroic souls in this convent who
will suffer persecutions and calumnies within the very bosom of their Community. They will be the
object of the complaisance and love of God and his Mother. We shall personally console them, for
they are destined to be familiar with us by means of their external manifestations.

Like strong, stout columns, they will sustain the Community in troubled times. Their lives of
prayer, self-denial and penance will be most needed during each period. After having lived on this
earth unknown, they will rise too heaven to occupy high thrones of glory, and receive the palms and
crowns of virgins and martyrs of penance and love of God….”(5)

Our Lady then placed the Child Jesus into the arms of Mother Mariana and she was filled with a desire
to suffer for Our Lord.

Not long after this apparition Mother Mariana’s term as Abbess came to an end and Mother Magdalena
of St. John was elected Abbess. As Our Lady had predicted to Mother Mariana, the scheming of the
non-observant Sisters came to fruition and the convent was released from its obedience to the
Franciscans and placed under the local bishop. The observance of the Rule was relaxed, and strict
silence disappeared. The non-observant Sisters spread lies and calumnies about Mother Mariana and
gained her imprisonment in the convent from the Vicar General. Mother Mariana and the other
Founding Mothers of the convent would subsequently be imprisoned four times due to the scheming of
the rebellious sisters within the convent.

During the imprisonment, Mother Mariana had a vision of Our Lord suffering on Golgotha amid the
blasphemies and insults of the Jews. Another one of the founding mothers, Mother Francisca saw St.
Francis carrying a bow and shooting arrows as he walked through the convent. One arrow pieced the
heart of one of the non-observant Sisters who died instantly for no apparent reason to her comrades.

While in the Prison of the Convent, Mother Magdalena had a visit from her benefactor St. John the
Evangelist. He informed her of the insights given to him as he reclined on Our Lord’s breast during the
Last Supper. He was given to understand all the sacrileges that would be committed in the world
against the Holy Eucharist, notably during the 20th century. St. John also told Mother Magdalena that
the world would not come to an end before the Friars Minor had returned to the governance of the
Conceptionist Convent in Quito. To date this has not occurred.

A primary concern for Our Lady of Good Success throughout the Apparitions to Mother Mariana was
the death of priestly and religious vocations during our times. Our Lady predicted that Holy Orders
would be ridiculed, oppressed and despised, and that satan would corrupt many priests and religious.
She predicted to Mother Mariana that: “depraved priests will scandalize Christian people.”(6) Now, in
our day we have seen widespread immoral conduct by priests, bishops and other religious towards
minors, the youth and others. The Catholic Church appears to have lost its moral compass. Our Lady
of Good Success asked us to pray for, and support, good priests and religious who, like Mother
Mariana, will suffer at the hands of their corrupt colleagues. The efforts of satan to destroy the
Catholic Faith from within the Church is a recurrent theme throughout the Apparitions.

On June the 13th in 1989, Our Lady described to Father Gobbi of the Marian Movement of Priests(7)
aspects of the Book of Revelation. She told Fr. Gobbi that the Sea Beast which was “like a leopard” in
Rev 13 verse 2:
“…indicates Freemasonry; the beast with two horns like a lamb (the Lamb Beast) indicates
Freemasonry infiltrated into the interior of the Church, that is to say, Ecclesiastical Masonry, which
has spread especially among the members of the hierarchy. This Masonic infiltration, in the interior
of the Church, was already foretold to you by me at Fatima, when I announced to you that satan
would enter in even to the summit of the Church.”(8)

On June the 29th in 1972 Pope Paul VI confirmed to us, in a homily, that the “smoke of satan had
entered the Temple of God”(9). Our Lady went on to tell Fr. Gobbi in 1989 that:

“If the task of Masonry is to lead souls to perdition, bringing them to the worship of false divinities,
the task of Ecclesiastical Masonry on the other hand is that of destroying Christ and his Church,
building a new idol, namely a false christ and a false church.”(10)

The Sea Beast in young Mariana’s vision at sea, described in the first video, can be seen as symbolic of
Freemasonry. In the subsequent apparitions of Our Lady of Good Success to Mother Mariana,
Freemasonry was specifically named by Our Lady a number of times as being used by satan in his
efforts to destroy the Catholic Church, notably in the latter half of the 19th and 20th centuries. This has
been perpetrated through the relaxation of pious practices, secularisation, the undermining of doctrine,
immoral and corrupt conduct by clergy and in society at large.

The timing of these Apparitions and prophecies given to Mother Mariana is also significant, for at that
point in history, Freemasonry was unlikely to have been widely known. Yet, here it is named
specifically by Our Lady. Freemasonry itself regards its official start date as the year 1717,
approximately 100 years after the Apparitions of Our Lady of Good Success. However, the minutes of
the Lodge of Edinburgh in Scotland show a continuity from 1598 around the time of Our Lady started
to appear to Mother Mariana. A similar event occurred at Fatima when Our Lady delivered her
prophecies about Russia and appeared just prior to the Bolshevik uprising in 1917.

The Second Apparition of Our Lady of Good Success

The prophecies of the second Apparition of Our Lady of Good Success are primarily concerned with
the Colony of Quito but are also relevant to the wider Catholic Church. During this apparition, some
predictions were made that are now a matter of history. During this apparition, Our Lady also ordered
Mother Mariana to have her statue made. And this would finally be completed in 1611.

On January 16 in 1599 Mother Mariana was again in prison at the behest of the rebellious Sisters who
wanted to weaken the Holy Rule and have an easier lifestyle. Our Lady of Good Success appeared to
Mother Mariana a second time and informed her that the current imprisonment and sufferings were to
prevent a chastisement from falling upon the Colony of Quito. After She identified herself, Our Lady
told Mother Mariana that:
“…the Devil, the enemy of God and of the just, both now and in the future centuries will use all his
malicious cunning to try to destroy this convent, my foundation and legacy. Toward this end, he
will avail himself of persons of authority and dignity, often under the pretext of improving the
situation and bringing greater peace!”

To this end, the rebellious Sisters again availed themselves of persons in positions of authority in the
ecclesiastical government of the colony to have Mother Mariana imprisoned so as to weaken
observance of the Holy Rule in the daily life of the Convent.

Our Lady went on to inform Mother Mariana that:

“In a short time, the Colony will become a free republic: then (to be) known by the name (of)
Ecuador. It will need heroic souls to sustain it in the face of so many public and private
calamities…” (11)

“Accursed would be Quito without this convent. The most powerful king on earth with all his
riches could not erect new buildings on this site, for this place belongs to God.” (12)

Our Lady told Mother Mariana that “heroic souls” will be found in the convent. And Our Lady tied the
future of the Colony, soon to become Ecuador, to the future of the Conceptionist Convent itself and the
observance of the Holy Rule by the Sisters therein.

The Republic of Ecuador was eventually declared on August the 10 in 1809 (13) and finally it seceded
from Spanish rule in 1820 after the defeat of Spanish Royalist forces on Mount Pichincha near Quito.

Our Lady went on to tell Mother Mariana that:

“In the 19th century a truly Christian president will come, a man of character whom God Our Lord
will give the palm of martyrdom on the square adjoining this very convent of mine. He will
consecrate the Republic to the Sacred Heart of my Most Holy Son, and this consecration will
sustain the Catholic religion in the years that will follow, which will be ill-fated ones for the
Church. These years, during which the evil sect of Masonry will take control of the civil
government---will see a cruel persecution of all religious communities, and it will also strike out
violently against this one of mine.”(14)

The “truly Christian president” prophesied by our Lady was Gabriel Garcia Moreno who in 1873 made
a public consecration of the then Country of Ecuador to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. However, knowing
the forces that opposed him at that time he also predicted his own assassination:

History tells us: “The Liberals hated García Moreno, due to the authoritarian and ultraconservative
nature of his rule, as well as the fact that he frequently used secret police to silence leftist dissent.
In the minds of radicals, Garcia Moreno was a dictator, and the liberals also were enraged that his
policies remained after 1865 when friends of his were elected, and because he won the presidency
again in 1869. Meanwhile, other politicians, who previously had been free to exert their influence
over government for their own personal gain, now were opposed by a man determined to stamp out
all corruption within Ecuador. This opposition from the more radical left compelled Juan Montalvo
to write the pamphlet La dictadura perpetua (The Perpetual Dictatorship), which inspired the
movement to assassinate Gabriel Garcia Moreno. Therefore, when he was elected a third time in
1875, it was considered to be his death warrant. He wrote immediately to Pope Pius IX asking for
his blessing before Inauguration Day on August 30:

Garcia Moreno wrote to Pope Pius IX asking: “…before that day, so that I may have the strength
and light which I need so much in order to be unto the end a faithful son of our Redeemer, and a
loyal and obedient servant of his Infallible Vicar. Now that the Masonic Lodges of the neighboring
countries, instigated by Germany, are vomiting against me all sorts of atrocious insults and horrible
calumnies, now that the Lodges are secretly arranging for my assassination, I have more need than
ever of the divine protection so that I may live and die in defense of our holy religion and the
beloved republic which I am called once more to rule.”

García Moreno’s prediction was correct; he was assassinated on the steps of the National Palace in
Quito, in the square next to the convent---struck down with knives and revolvers, his last words being:
“God does not die!”(15). After the death of Garcia Moreno, persecution of the Church in Ecuador
recommenced under the influence of Freemasonry.(16)

Finally, during this second apparition Our Lady commanded Mother Mariana that a statue of herself be
made as She had appeared to Mother Mariana:

“Thus, it is the wish of my Most Holy Son that you command a statue of me to be made, just as you
see me now, and that you place it upon the Abbess’ chair so that I may govern my convent. In my
right hand, place the crosier and the keys to the cloister as a sign of my proprietorship and authority.

In my left arm, place my Divine Child: first so that men understand how powerful I am in placating
the Divine Justice and obtaining mercy and pardon for every sinner who comes to me with a
contrite heart, for I am the Mother of Mercy and in me there is only goodness and love; second, so
that throughout time my daughters will understand that I am showing and giving them my Most
Holy Son and their God, as a model of religious perfection. They should come to me, for I will
lead them to Him.

When tribulations of spirit and sufferings of body oppress them and they seem be drowning in a
bottomless sea, let them gaze on my holy image which will be for them a star for the ship-
wrecked.”(17)
Our Lady also predicted that a Golden Age and a Holy Prelate would come:

“The separation of the Friars Minor has taken place by divine permission. Woe to those who
openly worked to obscure the light of my convent! But after some centuries, they will return to
govern this beloved flock, which will always lament their absence and feel their loss. Neither you,
nor your present-day daughters and Sisters, will see the happiness that will dawn for this blessed
convent… for today marks the beginning of a dark night. But a golden era will come for this my
convent. Then a Prelado (prelate), my most beloved son, blessed and prized before God will
understand by divine light the necessity for the daughters of my Immaculate Conception to subject
themselves in exact obedience to the Friars Minor for their sanctification and perfection. This
Prelate will ask the Vicar of my most Holy Son here on earth to restore the jurisdiction over this
convent to the Friars Minor.”(18) (emphasis added)

We eagerly await this “Golden Age” and the advent of this holy Prelate. Clearly, he is not a future
Pope but rather appears to be a Bishop or Cardinal who is holy and loved by Our Lady. The Sisters of
the convent in Quito and their Seraphic Fathers will return to be fully observant of the Holy Rule. To
date this has not occurred.
